1) Can you interpret that? Typo? You mean the website sucks?Originally posted by: ncage
The only two negatives i can come up with so far is:
1) They were site majorly sucks - not that big of a deal.
2) Every time you call it announces the amount of money/time you have left. At first i thought this would be anoying but with how much i will be using the phone. Who cares right?
So overall very happy. I get to use my existing phone

2) Every time you call? Every time you call what? A number to check your account or every time you place a call? What exactly do you mean here?
Their FAQ says:
How do I check my balance?
Your account balance can be checked and replenished from your cell phone #737, or by contacting customer service at 1-800-550-2436 (option 2) from any phone.
You can now also check your balance by creating an online account through our My Account section.

Thanks ncage. I have to wonder if there isn't an option to turn off the reminders of remaining balance. I could live with it, but I'd like to be able to turn it on and off. It seems strange given what I quoted in my last post from the FAQ where they tell you how to find out what your remaining minutes are. 😕 I think I'm right in the middle of my Verizon month right now. I'm going to call Verizon tomorrow and ask them when's the best time to dump them. 😀
PP porting told me that it would take 24-48 hours to get things set up. It's no big deal to me if I have no cell phone for a day or two, probably won't inconvenience me at all.

I know i heard somewhere that you can turn it on and off but i think you have to call them to do it. I think i'm just going to leave it on. It just will remind me when i have to refill. Hopefully they will remind you when your getting close to your 4 month window when all your minutes will expire too.

I recently went with a Tracfone setup. I got a double minutes for life phone so whatever amount of airtime I buy gets doubled. The neat thing about Tracfone is the bonus codes they have get you additional minutes when adding airtime. Usually an additional 60, sometimes more. Whenever you purchase airtime, you get 90 more days of service, so you do have to top up every three months if you don't buy a one year card. So far no complaints, in my area my GSM Tracfone uses either T-Mobile's or AT&T's network. If you're heavy into text messaging, Tracfone isn't the best since each send/received of a text costs you .30 minutes. Some of their phones are really basic too. There are a couple with bluetooth and a camera, but for the most part they're pretty basic. However, if all you're after is a cheap phone & service, they'll do.

I wish I could get a pay-as-you-go cell plan with a reasonable data connection. Right now, I pay ~$80/month with AT&T for 450 minutes a month plus unlimited data. I only use about 50 minutes each month, but I use my data connection all the time. Of course, to even get a data connection with most carriers, one must have a cell plan, too. Total crap.
Why not get a USB cell modem for $40-60/mo unlimited and get a pay as you go cell phone.

Page plus if you can. Cards last 4 months and minutes roll over I do believe. You can get rates as low as 6c per minute with no daily access fee. The access fee is only 50c per month.
Also, they can activate pretty much any verizon phone, and some CDMA phones from other carriers too. They can also do unlocked phones.
You get 100 free minutes when you activate to boot 😛
Other good choices are cricket and metroPCS. Boost will be having an unlimited everything for 50$ per month pretty soon, but it is on sprint.

also, PP runs on the verizon network. MetroPCS and cricket run on their own network. I don't know if they can roam on anyone else's.
this. 5cents/min w/coupon 🙂
8cents/txt msg 🙁
Is it obvious when you make a call whether or not you are in roaming status? Obviously, it would be nice to know that the call you're making is costing you ten times more than normal!Originally posted by: nonameo
Thanks. Um, I guess what you're saying is you buy an $80, then a $10, instead of 3 $25 cards? This is all pretty much a revelation to me. If PP uses the Verizon network does that mean I'll get identical coverage to that I have now with my Verizon? If so, this is looking like a no brainer.
Well, you don't get free roaming... so it has to be on verizon towers. That's really the only difference(There IS roaming, but it is NOT cheap at all. Don't roam and you'll be OK. BTW, verizon's network is big anyway. They have a coverage map on the PP website.)
Also, You should also be covered by alltel towers now as well.
