Has anyone used the custom parrallel cables to move C-64 programs to the PC?

Just curious. I'm going to order one of these cables for $12 and try to move some of my old programs over to D64 files to play them on an emulator. The program is free, but it takes a specialized cable to connect he 1541/1571 drive to the PC. The directions look pretty simple.

Has anyone else around here tried to do this?
 
So have you used it? I'm guessing not since it doesn't really use a driver, the 1541 and 1571 floppy drives are standalone units. 🙂
 
I have a whole drawer of olf 5-1/4ers in storage. I want to see if some of them are still alive and kicking! 🙂
