Has anyone used PODS for moving and/or storage?

I may have the opportunity to move to Maine for a year for work. If I do, I'll need to move my stuff from Missouri to Maine. OR I may get a furnished apartment, so I would need to store my stuff for a year.

I've used PODS. Good company.

But they are more for temporary storage, like 1-6 months, than for a year or so.
You can leave the container on your site (zoning/community rules?) or they'll pick up, store and deliver.
But if they have it you can't access it.

For longer term storage try one of the U-Store-It places.

We used a POD for about a month between when we moved out of our apartment and into our house. We moved a total of about 20 miles and we were short on time so it made more sense to do this than to move everything into a U-Haul, unload it into a storage place, unload the storage place back into a U-Haul, and then move it into the house. The POD was rather expensive ($250/mo compared to probably ($125/mo for a storage place) but it was dropped off at our house in the same condition we loaded it without any damage to our belongings and everything was taken care of in a timely fashion. I'd recommend it if you can justify the expense.

I used their competitor, "Big Box Storage," and didn't have an issue. Big Box storage had larger volume boxes than Pods have. http://www.bigbox.com
I'm not sure if they are available in your area though.
I loved the convenience. I packed up the stuff in their pods/boxes, and they shipped it away. They stored it for me, and delivered it to my new condo a month&half later. I was out of the country at the time.

However, for the convenience, it's not cheap. I paid about $450 for almost two months of storage (includes delivery and pickup, storage..). However, given that I don't have a truck, it would've costed me about the same if I had to rent a uhaul or a rental van to haul my stuff into storage. Also; I saved a lot of time just packing and unloading ONCE; right at the doorstep of the place I moved out, to the place I moved in.

I recommend Door to Door Moving - http://www.doortodoor.com/

They're less expensive than PODS and they have warehouses for storing the crates if you need to(and you can access them whenever you need them).

I've used them to move cross country twice. When I lived in SF, I had three crates in storage. I believe it cost around $90/month per crate.

Hey..

My daughter needs to move kind of soon, and a few people have told me to research moving pods [link deleted]. I did some searching and found a bunch of sites, but I wanted to get some actual feedback from people. What are your experiences using pods? Are they cheaper? More reliable?

She's looking to move soon so any info would help- thanks!

Don't be scared off by the over-reacting people and mods here. How they can say yours was anymore spam than the guy right before you, I don't know.
