Has anyone thought of buying an Alfa Romeo?

Steering wheels from the 1990's are so fucking ugly.

Another bad thing from the 90's. 😛

I regards to the car: I have heard Alfas have always been difficult in terms of breaking down--and especially in the 90's, I wouldn't trust it that much. Might be a fun car to work on, but unreliable as a daily driver.

That said, I know little except what I hear, so it might be a reliable car.

My colleague at my firm used to drive an Alfa Spider. They are definitely charming cars but inferior to a Miata in essentially every way, other than masculinity. Parts are spendy and the cars are quite unreliable. It might be a good car to use to learn to work on cars, but I wouldn't want to actually rely on one for transportation.

Since my super-quick perusal of the local CL indicates that '91 Alfa is going for roughly the listing price of 2001 Miatas with similar mileage, I wouldn't say the prices are comparable. I'm guessing with some confidence that Miatas are much more reliable. 10 years newer + more reliable = strong argument for a Miata.

Then again, I can appreciate things besides just reliability. The little convertible I really want is a Triumph TR4.

Driving experience-wise, I drove a late '80s Alfa Spider back in the late '80s and it was awfully fun. I've never been behind the wheel of a Miata.

If you really want something then screw reliability and go for it. Sometimes you just have to do whats fun and not what is smart. Just make sure it isn't your only car and if you can work on it yourself it would be a big plus. I have a miata btw.
