has anyone taken a 'spin' class?

I was in football throughout high school, but that was 3 years ago now.

I took this class at a place called 'The Firm' near downtown Minneapolis ad let me tell you, that was very intense!

The Firm is about 100$ a month for the gym + unlimited classes (which are offered many times a day, numerous types of class they are just better known for spinning).

I have never been much of a biker either, but this looks like it'd be a good idea to do 3 + times a week. The problem is, I am not sure if I can fork over 100$ a month for the membership!

Anyone ever taken spin classes like this?

These people were intense, I wasn't doing too bad...my sister and GF were though haha.

Let me mention the classes are one full hour long with no breaks.

Yea, spin classes are a helluva workout. I just hate sitting on a seat though, would rather get my cardio in other ways

The seats hurt...that is the only part sore on me!

yes, but they are very good for your cardio and all around body physique and such.

really brings your endurance up. I think its better then running too, because you do not have the harshness on your joints when hitting the pavement or whatever you are running on.

I am just not sure if I can dish out 100$ a month for all of these classes and a membership to a gym.

$100 per month?

You sit on the bike while someone yells at you, is that the gist?
Is there music playing? Dead or Alive's classic "You spin me right 'round" sounds tailor made for that class. I like some Meat Beat Manifesto when cycling, though.

I get all my cardio from upright bikes, the key is to sit on your ass not your nuts. Low impact because i have fukt up knees--the result of a high speed high-side on a motorcycle when i was 18. I can tell you when the barometric pressure has changed though.

edit: hey, look i have 2^12 posts. Powers of 2 FTW!

what I'm wondering is how this is any better than actual cycling?!

strap an ipod onto your roadbike and hit the pavement. you get wind in your hair, a decent tan, a great view and... uh... you don't have to pay a ridiculous membership fee...?

how is having a trainer better than going to the gym by yourself?

also very few people own a road bike, + they most likely lack the self diciplin to go out and ride on their own

you dont even have to go outside they sell things that attach to your back wheel that turn any bike into a stationary bike

better, its techno..depending on the teacher too. You technically 'go with the beat' its works REALLY well.

problem with that is...you dont get the work out you would with this one hour session (you can go to the next class to make it 2 hours)...in my opinion at least haha.

Plus traffic, people...deal with the elements of weather.

Never thought I'd see the words "meat, spin" and "you spin me right 'round" all mention in the same post without at least a chuckle.

They offered spinning classes in the gym I belong to in GA, although I've never been to one, and to the best of my knowledge they only last for 30 minutes.

It definitely seems like a great way to get in some cardio. However, $100/month seems steep to me regardless of how good the class was.
