Has anyone suffered a TFCC tear?

Well, shit.

The outer-portion (ulnar) side of my wrist has been severely bothering me for about a month now. I did some self-diagnosis and found that a TFCC (Triangular fibrocartilage complex) injury is common in racket sports. Being a huge tennis player I did -not- want to see the doctor, but it got so bad I had scheduled an appointment with the doc. Today was that day.

My fate was sealed. The doc suspects a TFCC tear and has scheduled me for a NVC (Nerve conduction velocity) test and a MRI to make sure. I have a followup with him in 3 weeks to check the results of each. He did not mention treatment, but a quick google search shows non-surgical and surgical... with a wide range of recovery times. Has anyone dealt with this injury before? I'm not looking forward to it at all - at least winter is coming... I guess.

How can I wipe left handed? How can I fap left handed? How can I DO ANYTHING LEFT HANDED? HOW DO I SHOWER WITH ONE HAND?!!?!?

Happy Monday.

Fapping with the left hand isn't too bad. It's like another person. You're screwed with everything else though.

Yes, and it sucked. For months doing things like closing the hatch on my car, shooting a basketball, and yes...wiping my ass wound up with me almost doubling over from the lightning bolt of pain that shot through my wrist. It took me a good 4 months to be able to shoot a basketball comfortably.

Even 2 years removed it's still bothersome. If a low pressure front comes through my wrist locks up and the same motions that bothered me while still injured will hurt to do.

Thanks vi, but no thanks. Mine doesn't sound as bad as yours though. Hopefully I caught it in an early stage where surgery isn't required. I suspect I'll be lefty for a good two months at least :(

I don't see how anyone can do anything with their right hand.

I sure as hell can't. :(

Truth. Sad thing is I remember there being a statistic that shows lefties live shorter lives than right-handed people.

I'm 6 months post op for a fairly significant TFCC tear and NOTHING hurts as badly as trying to shoot a basketball!

I had my surgery on Feb 19th and my recovery has been pretty good so far. Lots of stretches, icing, and strengthening exercises. My doc said I should be able to get back on the tennis courts at the 2 month mark. I won't be slamming the ball right from the start, but I'll be happy to get back out there. It's been since October or so since the tear sidelined me. Not a fun experience...

Four months between diagnosis and surgery? I assume they must have been waiting to see if it would heal without surgery.

(And who the hell is incapable of wiping their ass with either hand?)
