Has anyone successfully reinstalled Windows XP on a Dell Dimensions 9100?

My and some other on the Dell forums have been unable to reinstall Windows XP on the new Dell 9100 - there are blues screens during the install procedure. I think the new BTX formfactor is causing problems with Windows XP SP2, and dell didn't test enough before releasing this computer.

Anyone here been able to reinstall a clean version of XP on a 9100 without problems?

Windows couldn't care less what form factor it is - that has no bearing on anything other than what power supply and case arrangement it uses, and Windows doesn't interact with that at all, for the most part.

The issue is you cannot install Windows. One likely cause of that is that the serial ATA drivers that the new Dell motherboard requires may not be compatible with the generic ATA drivers in XP, and so you get a BSOD or a hard disk not found error when installing XP past a certain point.

I suggest downloading the 9100 SATA driver disk and hitting F2 when prompted, during the XP install, to insert a SCSI or hard drive drivers disk. You'll have to be sure and put the drivers on the disk correctly; read the documentation for details (typically either all files in the root directory or in a specified folder.)
