Has anyone studied abroad? What did you think about it?

I am thinking of going abroad for a while, for maybe 6 months. I took 6 years of spanish in school, so I am leaning towards going somewhere in Latin America to study.

What did you think of going abroad? Would you do it again? Did you say it was a life changing event?

Thanks😀

i haven't gone, but everyone i've talked to that's done study abroad loves it.

and go to spain, not latin america.

I went abroad for a year to England and then stayed on when it was over to stay over there for 5 years. I met my wife there and it was definitely a life changing event for me. I would definitely do it again (I wish that I could!) and would (and frequently do) recommend it to others.

general rule of thumb, computer nerds generally don't like study abroad because of the internet connection and hassle of carrying computing resources.

Generally, it's a good experience. However, with this political climate, it's hard to say. Since we're hated by 3/4's of the world right now, it might not be the best experience as if you went in more peaceful times.

I studied in Germany in the early 90's and even then, there were plenty of Germans who made it known to me they didn't care for Americans. I also ran up against some French that didn't care for us either. Most were friendly, but you could still encounter alot of people in day to day interactions that were opinionated even before speaking with me. Some were distant because of my American citizenship and I can imagine that today it would only be moreso.
