My current box uses fedora and I was wondering how hard it would be to switch over.

I've been wanting to make one of these for a while. If you are familiar with *nix OS, how difficult is it?

I was going to do this, but realize that I have a cable box and thought it would be way more trouble than it would be worth since there are so many variables:
[*]Have to buy a PVR card
[*]Have to get Ubuntu or Debian to work to my liking
[*]Have to get Ubuntu or Debian to recognize PVR card
[*]Have to get MythTV working on Ubuntu or Debian properly
[*]Have to get IR interface working
[*]Have to then get MythTV to talk to cable box properly

I really want to do this, but I just can't reassure myself enough to actually get it done.

You could start off with 1-4 and get your analog channels first, and then progress to using LIRC to control your cable box.

I dabbled in MythTV, but I don't like the fact that you can't watch tv cross platform. Now I use VLC to view and stream my tv channels.
