WASHINGTON (AFP) - An Internet message from an Al-Qaeda-linked group threatening "unbearable hell" for Americans in reprisal for President George W. Bush (news - web sites)'s election victory appears authentic, a US official said.

The official said the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades, which earlier claimed responsibility for the Madrid train bombings in March, previously had used the website where the latest message was posted.

"So it appears to be them, given those credentials," said the official, who asked not to be identified.

Some past claims by the group have not panned out, such as the August power blackout in New York.

But, the official said, "We are taking it seriously and watching it closely."

The group, which takes its name from an Al-Qaeda chief killed in Afghanistan (news - web sites) in October 2001, said, "The coming days will show you that the one you preferred will lead you to an unbearable hell."

It said appeared to threaten new attacks on the United States within the "next days".

"The reelection of the criminal Bush, who is no different from the other leaders of this country who have devoted their efforts to killing Muslims everywhere in the world, will not dissuade the mujahedeen from striking the head of the line of infidelity," it said.

I couldn't agree more, I'm an American citizen of Indian decent. I was leaning towards Kerry, but towards the end I had a lot of my friends in India emailing me telling me to vote for Kerry coz Kerry would lead the country better and that George Bush sux and Americans didn't know what they were doing when they voted for him in 2000.
That really pissed me off and I voted for Bush... hey, if the otherside of the world thinks we are doing things wrong like they did during the Reagan era, we are doing EVERYTHING right.

I would not be surprised with OBL at all if he released the Kerry tape to get Bush reelected. Bush has probably been the best thing for Islamic fundamentalist recruiters since the Shah.

Did you not see my final sentence? Diplomatic solutions are just as effective as carpet bombing towns and invading foreign countries, neither do sh!t, although they both make the tree-hugging hippies and ignorant redneck hicks feel better respectively. How many have come out of the masses to take their place? There can't be a shortage of fanatical muslims, especially after the Iraq snafu.

Neither here nor there, most of OBL's threats have been empty and I can only imagine it to be slightly easier to carry out an attack on a country on the same land mass as most of your fanatics than one across an ocean.
