Has anyone seen Contact?

Wow. Why ? I would've thought closer to 70% at most.

The government would NEVER disclose they made contact with an alien civilization. I think we've already been visited by an alien intelligence and the government is doing everything in it's power to hide this from the citizens.

I've have't seen contact yet though, might have to check it out.

Really enjoyed it, the science vs religion thing was pulled off quite well in my opinion. One question though-someone explain Hadden to me. I don't get it-who is he? What did he do? What were they talking about at Eli's hearing at the end, that he "had the resources and money and will to dupe us all..."

No, that's about right. Nearly everyone believes in some higher power.

I think I have a poor attention span (I really like action movies), but even I found the movie very engaging.

I very much enjoyed the movie, but having the dad represent the alien was a total letdown. Enjoyed the rest though.

in the context of the story, Hadden is an eccentric philanthropist who takes a liking to Ellie Arroway - he actually follows her career and runs it back to her when she goes to meet him on his personal jet.

James Woods' character tries to debunk everything that happened at the end of the film (when they are in front of the senate / committee thing) by saying that the entire thing was an elaborate hoax by Hadden as a final "going-out" stunt.

I own both the VHS and DVD as well as the book. I enjoyed the film thoroughly.
