Has anyone RMA'd a self-inflicted CPU pin issue with Newegg?

A friend (yes, literally a friend, not me) brought his comp into work today so a guy could troubleshoot an issue with it. He was getting a C1 fault code on an Epox board, which he was told was a memory issue. Turns out, a pin is completely broken off his 5600+ x2 am2 CPU. A couple more are visibly bent. As much as we can gather, it is his fault, and did not arrive like that. He apparently had some problems with a 3rd-party HSF.

So, to those of you that have been in this situation, how has newegg handled your RMA? Were they possibly nice about it and switched it out, or were they pretty firm in their listed policy and deny the RMA request? The one guy suggested lying about it, but I'm sure Newegg has heard it a million times before....NOT that I condone lying, I don't want you guys to eat me alive for even possibly suggesting it. Is it most likely that he'll have to purchase a new one at full price?

Thanks for any feedback.

EDIT: Forgot to quote the policy from Newegg:
Processors (CPUs) Return Policy
Return for refund within: 7 days
Return for replacement within: 30 days
This is our Detailed Processor (CPU) Return Policy. Physically damaged CPUs cannot be returned to Newegg.com.

Improper installation of CPU fans and/or improper clocking may cause CPUs to chip. CPUs that are chipped, burnt or have bent/broken pins are considered physically damaged and cannot be returned for refund or replacement. Physical damage includes (but is not limited to) improper handling and any other type of damage sustained by irregular use.

Newegg.com encounters bent pins regularly when inspecting physically damaged CPUs. Forcing a processor into position will not solve an installation problem and may void your Newegg.com return policy. Buyers requesting a refund may have to pay a 15% restocking fee. Newegg.com will not cross-ship replacement CPUs.

The policy seems pretty cut-and-dry, I know. Just wondering what chances he has.

If you are covered by the return period, Newegg will ( in my experience ) process the RMA automatically, no questions asked..

The ethics of the situation is up to the individual, and IMO shouldn't be discussed here.. At least not in this forum..
