This reminds me of the study they did on mice to determine whether or not saccharin caused cancer. They fed them so much of the stuff, there was no choice but to get cancer. The little you use for the cpu should not do anything(although worrying about it may give you gray hairs). By the way, don't eat it!

Just about everything causes cancer under the right circumstances (even vitamins) so I wouldn't worry. You get more carcinogens from half an hour spent driving into work than you get in a lifetime of using conductive pens...

(reminds me of the study in England: do mobile phones cause cancer? Well, you get more radiation from half an hours sunbathing than from using a mobile, so it's a matter of opinion among scientists as to whether digital signals are nastier than random analogue ones)

The pen comes with a MSDS sheet that outlines possible risks associated with the chemical.

Its hazard rating is Toxicity:2 Flamability:2 Reactivity: 1, with 2 = moderate, and 1 = slight.

Inhalation: Repeated inhalation of concentration above permissable exposure limits may result in severe or permanent toxice [sic] effects.

Eye: May cause severe eye irritation, burning, blurred vision.

Skin: Prolonged or repeated contact ca [sic] cause moderate irritation, defatting, dermatitis.

Oral: May result in severe or permanent toxice [sic] effects.

You shouldn't worry too much about fumes from it because it hardens and then doesn't really fume. Additionally, it shouldn't get hot enough on the surface of the chip to cause fuming.

Basically, don't sniff it, eat it, or touch it alot, and you'll be ok.

p.s. - Isn't it kinda scary that there are misspellings in the MSDS data sheet?

eating too much spicy food can cause cancer....
sitting in front of your monitor can cause cancer...

...but as you know, these will never happen within your lifetime

Of course it causes cancer...everything causes cancer. In fact I heard owning a Cyrix CPU and running it for 12 or more hours releases cancerous radiation.........so dont by a Cyrix CPU!!

I wouldn't be too worried about misspellings on the hazard sheet - here in England we sometimes get chemicals with a COSHH (control of substances hazardous to health) sheet attached that's full of misspellings. Provided the data's correct, there's no problem. These days it's possible to get an official list of hazardous chemicals direct from HSE!
