Haven't read that book, but I saw a special on the History Channel about the Battle of Thermopylae. You just didn't screw with the Spartans back then.

No joke. They were HARD... if you liked the special, then I think you'd really enjoy the book. :)

I think Mel Gibson would be the best actor to protray Leonidas, at least that I can think of right now.

But yes, I've read the book, and I highly recommend it.

I learned about this battle in a college course... there are some questions regarding the exact number of Persians that fought, numbers range from 5 times as many (compared to greeks) to 100...

The Spanish did worse to the Incas, I think. Pizarro and about 180 men defeated an army of 80,000.

Of course there was a much bigger technology gap there though.

Mel Gibson would be awesome as Leonidas... I don't think he looks very Greek, though? Apparently both George Clooney and Bruce Willis might be in the running for the part...

Picked up this book while I was on vacation and it is great so far. I'm only about 100 pages into it but it's really hard to put down. Thanks for posting this, I probably would have never found it otherwise :)

Interestingly enough they're going to make a movie of the Frank Miller graphic novel "300" which is about the same subject.

Yet another Hollywood movie convergence a la Deep Impact/Armageddon. ;)
