Has anyone reached 3.6 GHz with E6600?

Hello and Happy New Year to everyone.


I wanted to know if anyone has reached 3.6 GHz or 4 GHz with a Core 2 Duo E6600 (400 or 450 MHz FSB) with air cooling. Is it nearly imposible?

If so, what system was used? mobo, ram, HSF, number of fans, Vcore, etc...


Oh! I have a rather dummy question. If the ASUS P5B-E has only 1 Chasis fan connector and I want to use a total of 5 Fan where or how can I power them?

P5B Deluxe, Thermalright Ultra-120 W/Yate Loon, 3 fans in a Thermaltake Tsunami Dream case(including the HSF), 1.5vcore,

FSB 400Mhz, default multiplyer, 2GB of G.Skill HZ DDR2-800 memory at DDR2-1000 2.3v 4-4-4-12. Default mobo voltages.

3.6 is pretty easy with the 6600 as long as you are willing to put some voltage through the chip and get mem capable of ddr2-800

For the fans, get a 5.25 bay (front of case) device that can support @ least 4 fans.

They are usually very cheap and will make your case look great!

3.6ghz is very easy to do if you have the right hardware and good cooling.

You'll need at least DDR2 800mhz
A top AIR Cooler Heatsink (Scythe Infinity, Thermalright Ultra 120, Tuniq Tower 120)
A good E6600 that can do 3.6ghz (most newer weeks can)

I actually run 3.8ghz with 1.47V and a Thermalright Ultra 120 24/7

im not sure if a cnps9500led is a top of the line
i have a e6600, 9500, at 3.4, 1.4vcore
and with coretemp i get 52-55 idle, 70 load with orthos
with 5 fans in case, no including the cpu fan, or gpu fan, or psu
u think i could do better with a Thermalright Ultra 120?

The 9500LED cannot keep up with an overclocked C2D. I had one and had to sell it.

I have a thermalright Ultra 120 and my temperatures went down 5-10c at the very least.

Some say the Tuniq Tower is just as good or even better. It is actually cheaper.

I'm using a vanilla Zalman 9500, running at 460FSB for 3.22Ghz on an E6300. Have had no problems so far, and load temps on synthetic benchmark (Orthos) are 58°C and real-world (F.E.A.R. and Battlefield 2) are around 52°C. Before I overclocked it, it ran at stock voltage and speed at 33°C.

i want a really good fan, can you guys suggest one to meh?

Easy and doable are completely different beasts. If you have a pretty good chip you can do it, you also have to have a pretty high-end cooling set to do it.

true but i haven't seen too many NOT do 3.6 but then again it is all luck... but it seems like most of the newer conroes are hitting 3.6 pretty easily.

I have as good equipment as anyone and I could not get my E6600 to bootup at 1.55v at 3.5ghz.....

I have top line PSUs...pc8000 ddr2 memory...tried multiple boards that have with other chips proven to go way beyond the fsb need to get a 3.6ghz out of a E6600...Will be able to try on 2 more boards this week...

Do not tell ppl it is easy...that is plain false....

3.6ghz is not a done deal....Maybe with some of the newer chips (since mine was ordered in August and delivered the first week september) it is more likely to happen, but clearly not easy...


Easy is 3ghz on any of the current C2D line with basic knowledge, 115 dollar motherboard, Pc5300 to PC6400 ddr2, and a 450 or greater power supply...even can be done on stock air cooler!!!!

I can recognize the Scythe Infinty on the CPU and the Noctua Tower Cooler (NH-U12) on the VGA... but what is that HSF on the NB? :Q

Can it be found in USA?

I think it is a thermalright northbridge chipset cooler...Amazing that both the vga and cpu are being passively cooled...

Corsair XMS2 DDR-6400 rated at 4-4-4-12 (tightened to 4-4-3-7)
Zalman 9500
VCore: 1.425V

Idle: 38C
Load: 62C

Had to redo the AS5 a second time to drop the load temperature below the 60C mark running Orthos. I've booted it up at 415FSB before on the board, but it requires quite a bit more voltage than I want to run with that fan. With a better fan, it should shave some heat, but haven't picked up another fan to try pushing it further.

3.4 is my max and I am very happy with it - that is a hell of one overclock on a 6600 2.4ghz processor
