"That some of the newer members just seem to insult the older ones more than anything? Even I didnt do that, and I am way immature. Hell, I am still new compared to most people.

Anyway, I was just wondering if I was the only one noticing that."

I have no idea what you're talking about. My philosophy is, new membership only becomes relevant when I want to understand why someone does certain things that an older member would know by then or when I want to know how to respond to a request for help. Besides those instances, who the hell cares what title someone holds or how long they've been here. Frankly, I don't care. The label doesn't change how I treat someone. If they respect me, I'll respect them. If they disrespect me, they'll get the same treatment from me or I'll totally ignore them.

But frankly, I haven't noted any tensions between the new and the old. Much of the long time members seem to be posting less. I won't say whether that's a good thing or bad thing, but some things in life require rebirth or making way for new things.

Well, what's a "new member" though? I mean, I take shots at people, sure. But I take shots at everyone. Guess that makes me part troll, part nef, part useful, and 100% ATOT poster.

People like Sidewayz (blatant trolls) and ipwnj00 (the über-nef) just don't count. Way too off the normal newbie standard.

I don't remember getting 0wned as a n00b. Maybe because I made only a couple posts a week, and generally kept my mouth shut.
Oh, how times change. :D

I think you'd still be on probation. Insult only when accompanied by another member. You'll get your wings soon enough. ;)

I read six pages of the DessertCart flamefest thread last night to two friends, and we laughed a lot throughout. Ah, the good old days, when the uber nefs and trolls were few and far between enough when they could provoke a real roast out of the older flamers. We've been so innundated that there's scare time or reason to bother with it anymore on the part of Red or Russ. :(

The only thing I find annoying with some of the newer members that just signed up is when posting in the same thread as a newer member saying "Well, since your a Platinum member, you should have higher standards than that!" as if their postcount actually meant anything. Thats what I find annoying :)

Lots of people stick by their opinions, I mean there are many things that show President Bush to be a bit of a fool at times, and people still say he's amazing, there are scientific "proofs" of evolution, but peopl eof many different religions still believe humans were created by gods/God etc. Some people's opinions are so ingrained in them that they will never be changed, some people are, as you say, just morons though.

What I find amusing is to see new (or otherwise) people try to flame or otherwise demean posters who have a pretty solid reputation here, and normally have well reasoned arguments.

This list includes, but is not limited to:

Michael
Carbonyl
Hubris
luv2chill
etech
Amused (One)
JZero
Dave Sohmer
Hayabusarider
Evadman
Fausto1
Nato308
Bizmark
charrison
sygygy

These are the only ones I can think of right now. If anyone has additions, please feel free to post them.
If you have a problem, e-mail minendo.

I have seen some people on your list, Cyberian, flame people, whether new or old. I have seen other long time members here flame newbies. I don't give a rat a** how long someone's been here, it's about respect. Respect someone and they'll be inclined to respect you. Being long here or new here doesn't give anyone the licence to disrespect anyone. If you have the audacity to disrespect someone, then expect the same response. You give it, you get it. If a newbie disrespects a member who isn't disrespectful, then the newbie deserves to be ignored (if one is mature to do that) or dissed too. The reverse is true too.

I, too, have seen people on your list insult other posters simply for having a different opinion. Time served at AT isn't something to gauge ones maturity level.

Yeah I'd take anything said as a flame on AT with a grain of salt. People act different on the internet because they aren't afraid of what could happen to them (getting their butt kicked) or hurting peoples feelings. They can act all "baddass" in flame wars on this here interweb thingy...but in real life they sit behind a desk doing jack, or they're 14 yr old kids.

Showing off on the Internet is so cool :D

So? Good for them.

Do you fear these "Diamond", "Lifer"and "Elite" members? All because they've been here longer than anyone else doesn't make them more important or their opinions more valid.

It just means they have no life and need to get out more. ;)

lol j/k. :D Don't hurt me. :p

To be fair, I have insulted people from time to time. But seldom, if ever, in place of a good argument.

And I haven't had the freeakin' (One) on my name in months!!! Can't you guys just let it go??? :p ;)

uhh.. i've insulted people and they've insulted me. Thats the normal process of internet dialogue, is it not?

In any case, I don't respect elders just because they are older than me in real life, so I"m sure as hell not gonna start giving special respect to the members who have been around longer than me. With that mentality, should we all be cleaning Anand's toilet with our toothbrushes?

I respect those who aren't overly right or left wing. from my limited experience, I've seen a number of people who are very conservative on here. personally, i would like to see people 'simma down now.'

People get cussed at for voicing a difference in opinion. Is there hatred on this board? Plenty. BTW, i've seen a lot of it done by 'oldtimers.' ppl with 1k+ posts. I don't think it is fair to say it is the 'new' or the 'old' guys. Those are blanket statements. I would just like to see ppl being more decent with others. Yeah, Ive also cussed people out, after a personal attack, but there shouldn't even be personal attacks on this board. IF we don't like someone's idea we should not like their idea, not them.

my humble .02.

Entirely possible. That was not my point at all.
My point had to do with people flaming / dissing people who had convincing arguments.
I also don't give a rat's ass how long someone has been here.

Yo, what IS your sig about? Seems like a Sanskritic Mantra

From the Bhagavad -gita

Chapter 11
The text that inspired Robert Oppenheimer to say "I have become death, destroyer of worlds" after he realized just what he had accomplished with the Manhattan Project. Oppenheimer ever after realized that he could not escape responsibility for actions in the name of science. It means other things as well.
