Has anyone in here ever had their garage door opener tear up?

When I hit the button in the garage it sounds like it will work for a split second and then nothing else. Any ideas?

make sure nothing is abstructing the door or blocking any safety trips.

adjust the force settings on the unit.

My brother had something similar happen. He opened up the case and found that the gear that ran it was plastic. The grooves had all worn off. Wouldn't hurt to check.

Yeah, mine had plastic gears as well, and when I opened up the case it was full of ground up plastic gear snow! Replaced the whole opener since the old one was quite old.

Sounds like either the opener is broken or a spring is broken.

Another case of plastic gear snow here.

I think I ended up replacing the gear and it just happened again. Had a new opener installed and it works great.
