Like 20%, and many eBayers do not trust them because it's all as-it, so less bids, and less money.

The jacked up shipping ocsts lead me to not shop there.

How much work is it to take 5 minutes to set up and auction, and then when it closes, you get an email and the buyer pays you, and you drive to the post office and mail it.


Maybe I should open a store that you come to me and can order from any fast food resuraunt and we'll go get it and charge you 20-30%

Cheaper items cost more on a percentage basis. If it's an expensive item, less percentage.

Think how much you would want paid to take in an item, take the photos, write the auction description, post the auction, answer any bidder questions, pack and ship, communicate with the winner, keep track of the money coming in, etc. Now on top of that you have the overhead of a storefront (in many cases) and paying the wages of the people who work there.

So I am not surprised that a $100 item might cost 30%. For people who can do ebay on their own, though, it's clearly not worth it.

I think we focus too much on what someone else is getting out of the deal rather than what is in our best interest. If Uncle Bob's pile of old VHS tapes sells for $40 on ebay, even if he only gets to keep $20 he's still ahead if he doesn't know how to sell them himself.

Don't forget company overhead as well. Those places need to pay rent on the office, pay employees, insurance, payment processing, etc.

just sell it yourself... its not that hard!
