Has anyone here ever tried luminosity?

I've been using it and have done so for the last month. Not sure if it's sharpened my memory or learning skills since that's hard to gauge.
BTW, it's Lumosity and not Luminosity.

I got a year subscription out of curiosity, I won't be renewing.

Don't get me wrong it doesn't seem bad. After doing a lot of the games for a few weeks I felt noticeably mentally quicker; but I'm not sure it's worth the cost of admission. There are tons of better indie games out there that will accomplish the same thing with much more entertainment value. The only advantage of Lumosity is variety, in that you can focus on different areas (visual-spacial, language, short-term/long-term memory, etc) at a one-stop shop.

For $75 (the cost of a year's subscription), I'd rather buy $75 of quality indie puzzle games and get the same effect with more entertainment value.

IIR, I heard about it on NPR and ended up getting a family subscription. I do believe it keeps me more mentally sharp in some fun ways... It's been good for my kids too... They have expanded it much since I became a member and I'm sure it will only get better.

Would I recommend it. Yes. For what it does, it seems to do well...

I thought of it more like that DS game, "Brain Age".

Has there ever been case studies on that game?

My wife played those brain age games on the DS, she had a few versions of it. Over time she got better at the games. I'm not sure how much it improved her "cognitive fitness" as some studies claim. (that study was only 32 participants haha).

Maybe she won't be in the risk of getting alzheimer's if she keeps playing lol.

When I had to DS I played Brain Age and it definitely made my mind sharper. I hadn't done any decent math since school so the repetition kept me sharper more than anything.

I'm so stupid now I hardly have the interest to load the site despite some screaming but faint voice in the back of my mind telling me it's my last tenuous hope to hold onto a once not-terrible intellect.

The indication I get from their commercials is that it's to help dumb people feel smart.

That chick they use has the most vacant, scary, 'marbles are rattling around in my skull' stare that I have seen in a while.
