no, 3x/day is healthy. 1 or less isn't considered "perfectly healthy". it typically indicates that you're not eating enough for the number of calories you need for your body to be healthy.

I wish that was true. I'm gaining weight because of low activity and too many calories, I poop a max of once a day.

Based on your theory, I should be losing weight because I'm not eating enough calories. Instead, I'm gaining weight because I'm eating too many calories.

I seem to be losing a bit of hair. Maybe some turbo lax will make it grow back.

My mom was suffering from hair loss. Doctor said it was probably stress related. She switched jobs and the hair grew back.

the same way peanut butter can get stuck between bristles of a toothbrush.

Honestly, quit being facetious. You darned well know the intestinal tract is nothing like a toothbrush bristle....unless you never had gross anatomy, in which case your education was sorely lacking.

Hell, we had something akin to gross anatomy in nursing school.....we had to attend several autopsies, had to put our hands in all the body parts and cavities...yes, even those......and the insides of the small and large intestines are mucus covered smooth muscle organs, and no meat, peanut butter, or anything else is going to stick to it. It was hard to even get the damned thing to sit still long enough to feel what it felt like....didn't scoot around the table like the brain did, but certainly wasn't dry, rough, or any other thing like that.

And that was in deceased humans. In live humans, it's even slicker internally. You know this, I know this, so stop the disingenuous comments unless you truly believe that......and then that sort of ignorance just reinforces the common belief that chiropractors are quacks.

Sorry, just calling them like I see 'em.

(ps.....the heart is slick smooth internally, also.....have had my hands in a few of those, too. Doing internal cardiac compressions gives one a unique perspective.)

The colon has evolved to contain a symbiotic relationship with several bacteria. Other than a diet rich in fiber and possibly including some helpfull bacteria (yogurt), one should not try flushing everything out of it. It is not intended to be a sterile space and you are unlikely to acheive any real benifit from it.

finally a responsible post from a medical professional.

yet?

I'm no doctor...but I just can not seem to connect the dots on how exactly a colon cleanse is supposed to help hair loss. I'm not trying to be a dick here...but seriously. Think about it.

Acupunture on the scalp..yep. I can see that...think of aerating a yard.

Topical creams/drugs. Sure. I'm sure there's something that can stimulate folicle activity.

Diet. Yep. That make sense, you need a proper balance of fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals for good skin and hair.

Hormones. Absolutely. Pregnant women get much better hair with the rush of hormones that hit them with pregnancy. And then promptly start losing hair post partem.

But a colon cleanse? For hair growth on your head. Yeh. Just not able to wrap my head around that one.

colon cleansing can be hazardous for your health and has killed people. You anus was designed to be an exit only by nature. Keep it that way.

do you drink lots of soda?

Only if you have diverticulitis and even then no responsible doctor would recommend colon cleasning. Have you ever actually seen a colon?

?? you're kidding me, right?

did you not read anything i wrote? i said that that happens mainly in the small intestine, not the large intestine.

do you have any idea how many human cadavers i've dissected and helped dissect? of course i've seen a colon. get your head out of your ass.

and i never recommended the colon cleansing.

you call it like you see it? check your vision.

first off, it was an analogy. you've gotta be an absolute moron to think that i seriously think the intestinal lumen is dry as a bone. of course microvili aren't like toothbrush bristles. yes, i know that there is mucus lining the instestinal tract. the analogy i was making is that sometimes the fecal material can get stuck between the spaces at the base of the microvili and decrease absorptive surface area. with a proper diet and healthy intestinal flora, it either gets eaten up or dislodged and pushed along. that's why i asked about her diet and how long she's been maintaining a healthy diet. that's also why i said that it probably wasn't the case for her.

next time, read everything before taking things i say out of context.

edit: i want to clarify that when i said "intestinal lumen," i meant the small intestine, not the colon. kinda seems silly that i need to clarify that, but whatever...

Nope. After my kidney stone I only drink water. Massive freaking tons of water. I however eat a bit too much for my own good. I love pasta, steak, soups, veggies, etc. This was not a problem when I was very active in working out. Now that I only work out 2-3 times a week, I'm putting on pounds.

I need to cut back my diet to be more in check with my activity level. I however have never in my life pooped more than once a day except for days when I was sick. I'm usually a every other day kinda guy.

ATOT supports things that actually do something besides act as expensive placebos. Also bulk beef.

I see a chiropractor regularly, quite effective in treating some back soreness and I've noticed its improved my running quite a bit. Actually looking forward to seeing its effects during marathon season. Must mean its an effective treatment then?

I believe in organics to a certain degree... I prefer organic eggs and meat. I am very curious about alternative, Eastern-style herbs and medicines because I don't believe that Western medicine is the only solution. There's so much saturation and noise out there it's hard to discern what's good and what's not, and it must also vary on an individual basis... Just wading through all the info right now.

This sounds like a good policy and smart attitude. Remember, almost no one on ATOT is a doctor, most are still in high school and believe everything they read on WebMD, and their local pot dealer is gospel.

Oh god...

There's no such thing as "Eastern" and "Western" medicine. There's effective medicine (with scientific evidence of efficacy) and ineffective medicine.

So, if I drink an herbal tea to help me sleep better at night, and it works well, its 'western' medicine? And if I pop a sleeping pill, that doesn't work at all, thats 'eastern' medicine? A lot of medicine and treatment is clearly a marketing grab, I don't disagree with that. I just disagree with blanket statements from ATOT's arm chair 'doctors' that all alternative medicine is BS and has no effect on health, when there's so many people who have experienced positive results from it. Acupuncture has been around for thousands of years, you think if it didn't work at all, it wouldn't have persisted.

you might have a bowel motility issue. any low back pain?

Probably already been mentioned but I'm too lazy to read. Anyway... Your colon basically removes water from your waste then disposes of it. It doesn't store waste, nore does waste cling to it's walls. Anyone who claims it does is a quack. The body just doesn't work that way. The poop that comes out during a cleanse would have been disposed of naturally during your next bowel movement.

So cleansing doesn't do anything beneficial.

In fact, it can do more harm than good. It removes the good bacteria that aids in proper digestion from your colon. It can also cause electrolyte imbalances, which could leave you fatigued at best or kill you at worst.

All in all, it's not worth doing. Detoxing is pointless, period. Save your money. Seriously, who wants to shove a hose up their ass for no reason. The "doctor" might as well be putting his skin flute in you instead.

Nope I'm good. My only health issues are high blood pressure (caused by hereditary issues) which is managed by diet and exercise and poor flexibility in my legs which is a by product of a kidney stones and foot injury I had a few months back that kept me out of the gym.

I had to do a few bowel preps during the whole kidney stone thing (so they could see past all my gas) so I can tell you at least for a few weeks I was clean as a clean can be. I didn't poop for a whole week (might have been longer, I remember being worried about it) after that stupid milk of magnesia crap they made me drink. Cleaned me right out though.

If alternative medicine actually worked, it would just be called "medicine".

so you're under the impression that medicine is the only thing that works?

if so, how well does it work? does it ever not work? if so, then would it cease to be called medicine and then become alternative medicine?

do you know medicine is the 3rd leading cause of death in the united states? is that a testament to how well it works?

not trying to start an argument or anything... just want your opinion on these (and ONLY these) questions.
