has anyone had MS tell them NO when they activate office/win?

The version of winxp on my main pc has been activated... 20... 30 times easily.. if not more than that.. It never auto activates.. I've gotta call, but I just tell them the truth (new hardware, rebuilt pc and old parts aren't being used, etc) and they let it go... I'm waiting for the day they say 'no!' to my legit purchased software....

anyone?

Nope. Mine auto-activate every time. Of course, I don't activate them ten times a year, either.

As long as you're only using each licensed copy on one PC, they'll always help you out with the activation.

However, it is the absolute dumbest anti-piracy measure of all time. They make legitmate users call in and feel like criminals just for doing a reformat, while people using pirated corporate copies never even have to worry about activation.

That's a bit bad, but they deserve it. It really is easier to run a pirated copy than not. (Not that I'm speaking from experience or anything 😱).

But seriously, it does tick me off when I have to call in.

pffft my work has more than 50 machines running a single copy, my boss just blames hardware changes and SP2...the cheap bastard!

You could blackmail your boss. MS doesn't care about individuals, but they do go after businesses that do this.

The client site I am working at has all legitimate copies. Each machine they buy has a unique 'Official Licensed' sticker on top. However, when the PC comes in the door, the first thing done is to wipe the hard disk and install the corporate image.

Well, one of the users called the help desk ... one of the updates (office, windows, etc.) was asking for the user to key in the 'Official Licensed' key in order to proceed. Maybe this is how MS will eventually get around corporate image piracy?

I don't feel like a criminal, but I HATE calling. Lately they've actually had wait times... Sure it's only like 3 min.. but it pisses me off that I have to wait even 3 min for something I PAID for.
