Has anyone had experiences with ATA Raid cards with Linux?

RH has a lot of driver support for raid and scsi cards.. have you tried booting from the cd and seeing if it recognizes it? i have an onboard raid card and freebsd, mandrake, and RH all see it without the need of any other boot floppies..

if booting from cd doesnt work, try searching on redhat.com to see if you need special boot disk for it.. 🙂
hope this helps

Well ... I'm trying to setup Raid 1 (Mirroring). I managed to set it up in the RAID Card BIOS.
But when I install RH 7.2 ... it sees that there are 2 physical Hard Drives (which is correct) ...
what I want to do is install Linux on HDD1 while HDD2 is the mirrored drive. I don't think it does it 🙁

What do I do ?

How did you do yours?

Ive used the 3ware cards and they work perfectly and are supported by the manufacturere in linux. not much help I know 😉

try the redaht hardware compatibility list here

linux sholud see it as one drive if the card is setup right and working

HD1 is what? a partition in the mirrored drive? and HD2 is the other partition? whats your lay out?

onboard IDE:
pri master
pri slave
sec master
sec slave

Raid Card:
pri master
pri slave
sec master
sec slave

??? 🙂

Onboard:
Primary IDE Master: CDROM
Primary IDE Slave: None
Secondary IDE Master: None
Secondary IDE Slave: None

Adaptec 1200A (ATA 100 Raid Card)
Primary IDE Master: 40Gb Maxtor
Primary IDE Slave: None
Secondary IDE Master: 40Gb Maxtor
Secondary IDE Slave: None

Currently running RAID 1 (mirrored) via settings on the Raid card BIOS.
Windows see it as just on 40Gb drive ... perfect ..

Linux RH 7.2 during install sees the drives separtely ... how do I go about sorting this out?

doesnt RH 7.2 have a raid option during install?

did you make 2 partitions? one for windows, and one for linux before install? or were you planning on doing that during install? check for RHs compatibility list? maybe a boot floopy with the cards drivers? check manufacturer site aswell
