Has anyone gotten a voodoo 5 AGP card working well under XP?

<SPAN class=gs_normal>I ask because we are trying to get a friend's system LANable for a party in a few hours. He really doesn't have the cash for a new card and all we have lying around that's decent is an AGP V5. I found some 1.09 build 7 beta drivers that we will try to use(Im at work still), but has anyone gotten this card to work under XP? If so, what kind of performance can I expect? I.E. what more modern card would it be comparable to?

We are planning on playing bf1942, jedi II, UT2003, and mechwarrior 4 mercs, will this card be able to handle these games at all?

His current card is a TNT2 M64, so I know that the V5 ought to be faster, but will it be enough? Im not worried about super high frame-rate, just enough to make these games playable at 800x600 at least.

Thank you guys in advance

I had a v4 working for a quite some time untill I got my new GeForce4. The only problem was it world not play OpenGL games, but that was the cards falt since it was not fully OpenGL compliant. So yes is should work. If you need drivers look here.

I got a voodoo 3 working under XP but it took some doing on my part. My sister wanted XP pro installed on her old gateway system because she got kids. It's very simple to lock them out of the system so they can't do any damage to the files.

That's going to be a toughy because 3DFX is out of business and no longer supports the card. I believe they went out of business before Windows XP came out. You might want to try to find some 3rd party Windows XP drivers if they exist.

Jedi should work fine under xp since it uses quake3 engine, and the current patch of UT2k3 has workarounds for voodoo3/4/5 to get them to work, but slowly.

The default 3dfx drivers from XP and Windows Update do not have OpenGL or glide. The easiest way to fix that is get the newest win2k drivers, and then replace the glide2x.dll and glide3x.dll with those from GlideXP.

I spent countless hours over many many months and could not get the results I wanted with a Voodoo5 in XP. I tried every driver set I could find (10+). Certain games would work with certain drivers, others wouldn't. It was a headache. I can say for certain it's the OpenGL titles that are the worst (Jedi Outcast, etc.).

One day I did a fresh install of 98se on my sister's box and stuck the voodoo5 in... lo and behold, I could play all those stubborn games like Jedi Outcast that wouldn't work in XP... and performance was surprisingly good. This was on an XP 1700+ with 256 PC2100.

As far as I'm concerned, using a voodoo5 in XP is a nightmare in terms of playing games. Stick with 98se if possible.
