I started off with windows xp and then upgraded to windows 7. I do a lot of office work and found that my work took longer using windows 7 so decided to go back to xp.

Has anyone else decided to go back to xp after trying out windows 7?

I also found that all of my new games ran faster with windows xp.

only reason I can come up with for this is you didnt take the time to learn new shortcuts and the new structure of Win7, I am far more productive in 7 than I ever was in XP. 7 does use a bit more resources, is your computer just on the cusp of newish? So that the small amount of extra overhead from 7 is enough to notice a significant detriment to games and other programs?

My computer uses a Athlon II X2 250 CPU and has 4GB Memory. Maybe its more a case of being so used to Windows XP (ive owned it from when it was first released) so I can do my work much faster than Windows 7. Another thing I noticed is that my anti-virus completes it's scan faster with windows xp (a difference of 30 Minutes).

I find Win7 faster then XP,as to games well plenty of benchmarks that prove Win7 is up there with XP in that area so must be something not right on your PC,old review here.

Conclusion

Windows 7 performs better than Vista and is also faster than XP, although XP remains more capable for devices with limited memory and outdated graphics.

Subjectively, the change from Vista to Windows 7 is like releasing a car’s handbrake. This significant increase in performance has several causes: faster system startup and shutdown compared to XP and Vista; improved parallel processing; and faster loading of drivers and operating system components. Enterprise users will also appreciate the faster login to a domain.

When you say work, what exactly are you doing in xp that is taking longer in 7 to do?

Virus Scan takes 30 minutes longer. What AV software are you using? Even if it takes 30 minutes longer, set it to scan when you aren't using your computer, i.e. while you sleep.

You said your games run faster in xp? What exactly does faster mean by your definition? Longer load times or 3 or 4 more fps?

Are you sure you have all of the proper drivers loaded for 7? Is all of your hardware compatible with 7?

I use a CRE Loaded Pro Version 6.2 Pro to update a huge product based online business website. Our antivirus is Symantec Norton AntiVirus 2010.

Yeah I have all of the proper drivers installed once I had located windows 7 compatible ones which was a problem at the start. I have so much old hardware and finding windows 7 drivers was difficult. :(

I have taken the time to learn Windows 7, but I still find windows XP faster for getting real work done. I also find office 2003 faster than 2007, though. There are quite a few things I find annoying about Windows7, such as the order it lists the folder - and when I create a new zip file, in Win Xp it always went to the bottom of the folder. WIth Win 7, it places the folder in order, so I have to hunt for the file I just created - a pian when you have a lot of folders or zip files already. This is just one annoying issue - there are many others...

I also hate the activation - while installing an SSD I went back and forth from the SSD to my old hard drive a few times, and had to re-activate windows several times. I then got a message telling me my copy of Win 7 may be illegal, and I had to call up Micosoft to get it activated again.

Consider installing XP in a dual boot mode. If you have Win 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can run XPmode in a virtual machine.

Sure you can go back.

However, it is Not an in-place install.

Back up your data, install Win XP, install all the applications, and copy the data back.

Scanning a drive?

Win 7 OS per-se is almost x5 to x10 larger than WinXP, so there is more GB to scan.

I can't fvcken stand Vista. Win7 is more tolerable, but I think XP is a lot better, personally, not just the interface, but the functionality by default with absolute minimum tweaks.

I don't mind Linux with WinXP-skin. Win7 Pro is my next OS on the list. But for now..

HP business laptop: C2D CPU,4GB RAM,7200rpm HD
Windows XP Pro SP3 with corporate standard hardware/software installations and a single multi-function enterprise level security suite.
Only icons on desktop are: 1) My Computer 2) My Documents 3) Recycling Bin 4) System Restore shortcut

My XP laptop works like "Win7+SSD", practically no signs of lag whatsoever.

Cool thing about Vista is the interface by default with minimum tweaks, you can break it down to "classic" Windows style and still get the labeled tabs to look like XP.

Not a big fan of Win7. Of course if I could probably program the user interface.

Plus I'm oldskooL when it comes to OS choice.
Anyway, I like XP better than Win7 for increased productivity, prolly 'cuz I'm more used to it 'n overall I don't like the GUI for Win7 compared to Vista.

XP!

Why would you do that,XP look is so ugly, doing that to Linux is also a big sin in my books but each to their own.

Sooner XP has gone the better, people just have to get use to it going the way of the dodo, there are far better operating systems out there with better looks etc...

I just don't understand those holding on to XP,it was a decent OS but nothing special and no reason nowadays to hold on to it.

Win7 > WinXP > Win2k > Win98 >Win95 > Vista > Win3.11

Yes, I hate Vista that much. Win7 is superior for pretty much everything I do. A stable Xp or Win2k machine is also fine but not as pretty. For lesser hardware, XP is great.

Heh

Win 7 is good, i use it at home and at work, though the machine I use the MOST is Linux, there is nothing wrong with 7, it is a strong OS.

Vista's my favorite MS O/S so far. Otherwise, I like them in the reverse order of release. MS has been pretty good at improving each iteration of it's O/Ss imo. Vista may be my last full time Windows. I've been digging Ubuntu more lately, and my next full install will probably be Ubuntu as my primary O/S, with Vista, or perhaps my copy of Win7 for the odd game.

Personal attacks are not allowed dude and I do know how to read , did I insult you?..No I did not anyway I suggest you read the forums rules, problem with a lot of people is they can't be bothered to change or learn a new OS ,Microsoft like to change things and a lot of users like to stay with whats comfortable and to be honest a lot of them make poor excuses.

I did read your posts but disagree with your statement(members here have the right here to disagree) and it does not mean I/we can't read.

It'll be interesting to see what these users say in 20 years time,I bet they won't be on XP but have finally learned to move to a newer better OS.

I have used XP for 7-8 years so know it well, however the leap to Vista or 7 is not hard learning curve wise, speed is great on 7 too.
As to Vista well I used that too and its has been fine in my experience with no serious issues,Win7 is faster and has improved over Vista but then it was based on Vista,XP I could never go back too.

Any new OS takes time to learn and maximize productivity ,how long has XP been around?..yep almost 10 years, however does not take long to get to know Win7 which is now nearly a year old.

The mouse over window feature of Win7 increases my productivity big time. I had to use XP for a couple weeks due to a PSU failure. It is funny how such a simple feature can help.

i dont get people hating on vista as much as they do.

i found it almost no different than XP. it came by default with the file tools i use (eg, robocopy), and its built-in file copy dialog was a lot better. but interface-wise, it was the same as windows XP.

going from XP to 7 was a huge change, however. but it's a good change. i still prefer XP/Vista's Start menu, and if i ever stop being lazy i'll download that classic start-menu mod for 7. but it's fine.

i don't get people saying "xp is for 'real' work". as though you can't accomplish the same work on vista or 7. program compatibility aside, the way you work on them all is largely the same. and the increased stability, security, and file manipulation tools of 7/vista make them much better, imo.
