Consider installing XP in a dual boot mode. If you have Win 7 Pro or Ultimate, you can run XPmode in a virtual machine.

I just have win 7 home premium

XP Mode won't work for you, but you can use either Virtualbox or VMware player to install it in a virtual machine under Win 7 Home Premium. Of the two, I prefer VMware player as it does provide some 3-d graphics acceleration within the virtual machine.

If you use Player, the quickest way to do the install under VMware is to use a tool like Imgburn to create an ISO of your XP install CD. Mounting the ISO and using it to install is much quicker than installing from the physical CD.

AeroSnap alone makes Win7 10000X more usable and "faster"

Dual monitors and Windows Key + Arrows for the win.

The combination of Aero Snap and Switcher (freeware from http://insentient.net/) makes Windows 7 much more productive than XP for me.

Switcher is like OSX's Expose, but much more powerful thanks to superior customization options. Map "Begin Session" to a spare mouse button and start using it whenever you've got several windows open.

Its not hard to get Master of Orion 2 working on Win7,easiest way is to install DosBox 0.74 on Win7,http://www.dosbox.com/ ,there is also another way here http://www.sevenforums.com/gaming/34302-master-orion-ii-anyone-got-work-correctly.html#post437502 .

Again you don't need XP,its so easy to find info and help on virtually any game ;).

Btw if I get time I'll install it on my Win7 this weekend since I have the original retail version of Master of Orion 2 in my games collection.

I went from XP as my main OS for 8 years to Windows 7 this past year, I didn't have a problem finding my way around it. There are some features like Aero Snap and Aero Shake that I could care less about but for the most part I really like the OS. I have a laptop running XP and I use that as well but I do like Windows 7 more at this point.

Windows 7 is not bad or anything it's just my work is easier and quicker if I use Windows XP. Once I finish my work then I am sure I will reinstall Windows 7 to try out the latest browsers and try to get master of orion 2 working. :)
