I think i heard good thing about their rooms and they arent too expensive

how about hard rock, is the extra $50 a night over places like mgm, luxor, etc... worth it?

i will be staying 3 nights and 4 of us.

yeah i have been there, but havent stayed there, for this trip i dont think we want to go that level (bellagio, venitian, etc..)

its gonna be 4 guys doing the vegas thing and probably not spending a lot of time in the casino

i have been plenty of times from los angeles, but my friends are coming in from NY and i dont want to stay in crappy place either

when are you planning to be there cuase I can tell you right now CES show and the AVN show is on the second week of Jan 6-9 i think, and getting a room on the strip at a good price is next to nil.

I would recommend the MGM. Should not be as pricey as the Venetian and Bellagio and an awesome hotel to hang out in, probably moreso for guys due to some huge ass sports bar. The Luxor does not impress me. I have never stayed in there but even for gambling I found it kind of boring.
Hard Rock kind of sucks because it is off the beaten path just a bit. I think it is worthwhile to stick to a hotel right on the strip.

Again, go for the MGM Grand. Awesome hotel and the couple of times I stayed there it was a reasonable price.

Just came back from LV yesterday.

My experience at Excalibur
1. Walked into the room to find an industrial-sized blower drying the floor.
2. The economy/regular room has no tub. The shower shares the same floor as the floor next to the sink.
3. Flushed the toilet and the tank overflowed.
4. Staff rudely woke us up with a phone call to tell us our toilet was leaking.

My friend demanded a new and an upgraded room and they gave us the deluxe suite at no extra charge. The rooms are inexpensive but if you can afford it, go with Mandalay Bay or the Bellagio. Luxor isn't too bad either for a mid-priced hotel.

Main problem with Luxor is that it's a 1.2 mile walk from your room to the parking deck. (I paced it off.)
MGM is even worse.

If you are going to have a car (which I assume you will being from LA) and want to use it (since you said you won't be living in the casino), you might be better off at a place just off the Strip like the Orleans, Rio, or Hard Rock (although I've never stayed at the latter).

Everything at the Bellagio is outragously priced. It's beautiful, but even the 24 hour diner's cheapest entree (a sandwich) is about 20 bucks.

If you want the "Strip" experience with reasonable accomodations and prices, I'd go with Caesar's, Luxor (if you don't mind walking), NYNY (if you don't mind the rollercoaster), perhaps Harrah's or Monte Carlo.

Also, check the prices on the site's respective websites and track them for a few weeks if you have the time before you go. Rates change like airline ticket prices--my family will watch the websites starting in February for a summer trip, and we almost always stay at the best hotels (Venetian, Mandalay Bay, the new tower at Caesar's) for a few nights and somewhere off the strip (Orleans, Suncoast) for a while for about $100/night at the nice places and $60-70 at the off-strip sites.

If you're not set on staying at the strip, I'd stay off it. You can get to your car and drive to the place you want to go in the time it takes you to take an elevator and walk nextdoor in the huge resorts.

I wouldn't stay at the Hard Rock...to far off the strip.

I stayed at Excalibur once and it was perfectly fine. IMO i say Luxor or MGM.

Stayed at some htel next to the Hard Rock. It's a pain in the ass if you want to visit the strip frequently

It's vegas. You need an ATM card, condoms and a mattress. Stay somewhere near where you will be gambling...

This is completely another way to go, but give it a thought:
Stay uptown, and use the bus to go to the strip. The uptown atmosphere is really neat, and you can walk to 5 casinos there in the time it takes to go to one on the strip.
I used to go to Reno quite a bit, and I like the feel of the uptown casinos. If you are there to get gaudy glittered and expensive shows, then go on down to the strip. If you are serious about your cards, play uptown.

Got married at the luxor last Feb...thinking about going back for our anniversary...

the elevators (forgot what they are actually called though) are pretty weird as they don't go straight up and down but at an angle...takes a couple of times to get used to...

if you plan to do the strip, you might to get something towards the middle as the Luxor and Excalibur are at the very end of the strip...

For an extra 50 bucks, no, the Hard Rock is not worth it. For even the same price, I would pick the Luxor over the Hard Rock.

Screw staying at Hard Rock if the pool isn't open. And it's not.

Ballys, NYNY, Grand, Paris, etc are all good locations. Luxor's basic rooms are a little on the small side relative to most places over there.

Exactly what I was going to say. Hardrock if your going and single, someplace else nice if your brining a date/so with you.

Egh, I had a terrible experience at Paris, and others I know agree.
Was dirty, they screwed us with a deal we had reserved, and almost "anti-American" -- they obviously advertize to Asian tourists heavily, and it almost seemed that the American guests were unwanted at times. (I have no problems with sharing a hotel with foreigners, it's just that we did not seem to be treated as well... Very odd...)

Can't argue with location, though. It's fantastic. Buffet's pheominal, too, although pricey.
