Has anyone ever seen a rainbow around the moon before?

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
Right now there is a double rainbow around the moon. It's so beautiful. OMG a double rainbow!

The pic does not do it justice at all. Wish I had a camera that allowed me to set the shutter speed and a tripod to go with it.

The moon is also incredibly bright tonight. I can actually see clear shadows from the trees and stuff.

It's actually kinda like a double rainbow but you don't see it in the pic. There is a bigger but fainter one around. It's so beautiful. I can't believe it. A double rainbow. It's almost turning into a triple rainbow!

Just calm down... 😛

Quite possibly as it's actually pretty hot out right now so that may have an effect on things. It's nearly at melting point. I've seen a ring around the moon before, but never an actual rainbow. It's quite something, and it's so bright!

In my experience the most common cause of a bright halo around the moon is a widespread, fairly thin layer of Cirrostratus cloud. That's what I'd say is the case in pic 1.

Did you hear Dio singing in the distance?

A month or two ago we had something similar, it was extremely clear one night and the moon was just about full and there was a bright ring a bit further outside of the moon than your pics. To quote a buddy, it was a "boob moon."
