Has anyone ever gotten a ticket after using Valentine 1??

dunno but radartest.com says that the passport 8500 I think it's called is a lot better than the V1. On the other hand other studies say the V1 is better (I think car and driver). So I want to know what the real story is...

its getting quite old... i was still in high school and that thing was out already.

EDIT* just found out they upgrade versions... 🙂 hmmm...

as my friend once said

<seank> a valtentine?
<vect0rx> seank, pimp radar detector
<vect0rx> it can pick up jesus.

its the best one out there, works great.

Screw the 8500- there is NO comparison or competition to a Valentine One. Both manufacturers encourage you to try both for 30 days and send back the loser. Every single story I've read, they send back the Escort within a week.

keep in mind no radar detector is as good as your head

don't be an idiot, a v1 isn't gonna save your ass if they pace you

hell chances are even that you'll get MORE speeding tickets after a v1 because you'll be driving FASTER thinking that you're invincible. use it as extra protection, not an excuse to go faster ^_^

I just use a cheap radar detector. The mere fact that its there makes me keep an eye on my speed.

Go check out Valentine 1's website. They allege that radartest.com is paid off by Passport and Mike Valentine rebutts their whole testing method and results.

Did you read the point system? They awarded more points for ergonomics than laser detection, the study was wayyy biased in terms of functionality.

They can still catch you with Instant On, Laser, Pacing, and Vascar.

Valentine1 is simply the best warning that people are being targeted (according to reports--never owned one).

I wouldn't spend $400 for any Radar Detector that someone can break my window and run off w/ in less than 10seconds. (It'd take 'em a few seconds to search through the glove box I guess). Someone sees that bigass display in your car, they follow you around a bit, break your window and now they have a $400 detector.

So, you gotta shell out for the remote display and still hope someone else doesn't clue in that you own it and want it more than you do.

Dam things been $400 or so for YEARS now, they have changed very little about it, and they still are in business.

Original Thread that was in the wrong forum 🙁
No tickets with my mine...owned it for about 3 years.

But there's just no way any radar detector is going to give you total protection. The V1 is an aid, a very good aid, but it can't save you from foolishness or overzealous cops.

I've had a V1 in my NSX for a year and a half now. Never been caught by radar, but 2 pacing tickets and 1 vascar. The best part of the V1 is the directional facility. Very helpful to focus your concentration, in addition, the ability to have a concealed visual and audio unit make it very stealthy. (I have mine mounted behind my head, with an audio in the ashtray, and a visual on the steering column). No cop has ever spotted it.

If you have the cash, grab it!

i've had mine for a year or so, haven't had any tickets with it yet. definatly spring for the remote display though.

i have a v-1 as well. no tickets yet. I did come across a laser jammer at a friend's shop though. When I first saw it I was like yeah that crap is sold in the back of popular science magazines al the time.... Then the guy pulled out a laser gun from his car. We were hitting cars with laser from as far as the eye can see. This guy turns on his jammer and the laser gun reads nothing. It is like the gun is broken. My jaw dropped twice. Once at the fact it could do as advertised and the second at the cost of having to get 2 of these things. (Apparently the jamming works in one direction, he suggested one for the rear and one for the front) In addition you have to have it installed. Not like a radar you can move from vehicle to vehicle.

Chances are I will probably never get one. But its nice to know there are options out there. =)

Active jamming is quite illegal, all's good and well until you get caught.

yea, like Millenium said, radartest.com is fixed and was proven to be full of biased/false information. I saw a story online about it somewhere a long time ago.

I was recently doing some research on replacing my ancient Uniden RD9XL, and from what I remember the only states that outlaw jammers are CA, MN, NE, OK, VA, (& D.C.).
If anyone has more correct or newer information about this, I would like to hear it before I buy anything.

Oh yeah! - I haven't gotten a ticket in 41+ years of driving! Am I due?

🙂

I have a cheap $80 Bell. Still no tickets.

Been driving around 560 miles a week on I-35 doing 80-95 mph for over a year now. That's about 9 hours on the freeway a week. The speed limit is 70 mph by the way. It's not the kind of radar detector that counts. It's how smart you drive.

take a deap breath and order the v1 and all the goodies from their website, you won't be disapointed.

I've had a V1 for about three years. No tickets during that time, although I by no means feel immune. They can still get you with laser, pace you, or do an instant-on. I figure I've been lucky as far as that goes.

Get the remote display and mount it near your gauges so you don't have the red lights visible throught the rear view mirror.

My local cops still drive around with the radar on all the time. I like that--gives me a warm feeling knowing where they are.
