Well, I'm looking forward of buying a Valentine 1, but I was wondering if it really works like everyone said.
Has anyone ever got a ticket while using it??

Yes, ask anyone and they will tell you so. It's not perfect and laser take 1/3 second to get your speed.

Wrong forum also.

Has anyone used a Valentine 1 to speed through traffic, run a redlight, and kill a family of 5 in a side-impact collision? Just curious.

i have read that the Valentine 1 is not that good against Ka-band radar, which is the fastest growing segment of police radar. supposedly there is going to be a Valentine 2 out by next year with improved Ka-band detection. and fcuk off valsalva, you're probably that jackass on the 110 freeway doing 60 in the fast lane =P

What's a Valentine 1?
Only THE premiere radar detector...

I haven't used one myself, but a guy I know has one of these in his SS, and he swears by it. I have been using a Cobra ESD 9550cs for a little over a year, and am pretty happy with it. Remember, a radar detector will never make you 'police proof'. From my experience (have driven, consistently fast, with a radar detector for 5+ years) if a cop has you spotted out and uses one of the 'detector-proof' technologies (laser, pulse, etc...), which make it extremely difficult to react and slow down before he has already gauged your speed, then you are screwed. The vast majority of the time cops will have their radar on and just pointing at a section of highway (or wherever) and a good radar detector will give you ample warning.
I have recieved a couple of tickets over the past few years, but have 'avoided' too many to count. I feel naked and blind when I am driving without a detector. I am pretty sure my friend with the valentine one has seen similair results over the past few years, but then again his car lets him drive ALOT faster than mine (read: beefy v8, versus japanese v6).
While I have considered buying a Valentine one, I decided against it because it didn't have a text display. IMO, a text display is TEH feature for discriminating between real 'hits' and fake grocery-store crap... Then again, my cobra display is virtually unreadable with any amount of sunlight.
That is about all..
Oh, btw, whatever you do, don't get fooled into going for the 'voice alert' models, the crappy vocal cautions are nothing but an annoyance after approx. 3 minutes.
Hope that helps!

EDIT: Whoops, on dialup and all the responses, past the first one, didn't load. Oh well.

Yeah for a "Golden" member that was a pretty crass thing to say. He was just being sarcastic (perfectly legit in the Hot Deals forum).

Watch you language too...using words like jackass :D

Usually the speed limits are there and set so low not because of safety but to generate revenue.. most interstates outside of cities could easily be set for 80 mph but they are usually 65 to generate revenue

First off, u don't need a radar to speed. Use the shield method, sheesh, if you don't know, you better ax someone (lol)...

Good example... my buddy's Cobra was BROKEN and he didn't know it! Guess what? He got a $334 speeding ticket doing 120 from WV to Baltimore... kind of a bad time to find out your radar's not working properly, eh?

Second, educate yourself and look at speedtrap.com... I speed everywhere with a shield, know most of the speedtraps, and have never been caught in my life... of course, I've seen many times when the "shield" does though. If you don't have a shield, just do 10 over. It's not that big a deal folks to get somewhere 2 minutes later, and your car will also thank you for it as well as your wallet (gas).

I have had the V1 for years.. I have not received a ticket since.. After using radar detectors for years before, I find this to be the best.. Antennas looking forward and back.. Tells you if the threat is forward to the side or rear.. Like with any tool, you need to understand how to use a detector and what are the limitations are for this type of countermeasure... If you drive like an idiot you will get a ticket anyway. The only downside (nor much of one) is that it is larger than other detectors.. I use the remote display so no lights (LEDs) are displayed to be viewed out of the car.. (Ex. A.F. electronic countermeasures specialist)

Actually, no. I follow the flow of traffic in the first or second lanes. However, based on your response, you are most likely a "typical" SoCal driver who finds it absolutely necessary to weave in and out of traffic and cut people off. I watch you idiots zig-zagging through traffic, as I shake my head at you...cuz I'm maintaining my position in the fast lane, and after 5-6 lane changes, you still haven't passed me yet. ...of course, you probably find it annoying when people follow the car in front with more than half a car-length...and you absolutely must cut in front of a "slow driver" who is going just as fast as the car in front, but following 2 car lengths behind. Tsk Tsk. And then you scratch your head and wonder why there are so many 4-5 car rear-end pile-ups in SoCal. Then you wonder where all the traffic is coming from as you weave in and out of some more cars. In fact, just the other day, I was driving down "the" 110, and right in front of me, 3 cars slammed into each other because they were tailgating each other. As for me? I just drove around those idiots. As far as I know, you could have been one of them.

Right on Valsalva! I love watching retards weave through traffic only to save them 2 minutes of drive time.
