Has anyone ever canceled their cell phone service?

I was wondering if anyone has ever canceled their cell phone service before. I currently have Cingular and I want to cancel my service because I cann't make a call to save my life with the type of service they offer in my area.

Do they send you a bill for the early termination fee or do you have to pay it on the spot?

Thanks!

lol

My girlfriend's mom had a grat way to get out of contracts. She just told them she had cancer and couldnt afford the bill anymore. She does have cancer, but it is in remission, so it's not lying, technically. 🙂

Basically it all depends on your contract. If you have an early break fee (ours was as much as 400 bucks) you may end up either paying a pro-rated amount or the full sha-bang if they are total jerks. If you are out of your contract time, you may end up only paying what ever pro-rated amount of time you have in your billing cycle plus partial month taxes and calls.

Shouldn't be too hard as long as you tell them you are through.

As for paying the pay off amount, it can be done either way. We always told the customer to wait for payoff amount because roaming calls take anywhere from a week to 3 months to show up (at least at that time they did). So you can be billed for the amount just like any other account.

I would argue with them that they are not providing an acceptable level of service, kindly request that they cancel and close your account WITHOUT charging you an early termination fee.

If you use the right words, it will work and no fee.

If you want to pay a fee, I would cancel/close your account then pay the fee after they bill you.
