Has anyone else purchased the 580 today?

What was the point of this thread ? Were you trying to talk yourself out of the BIG purchase ? 🙂
Good luck ! Whats the computer like your going to put those bad boys in ?

Going the EVGA step-up route...cost me $15 to send my 480 in. I figure by the time I get the 580 from them... the 6970 should be out so I can compare reviews...before I open the 580. Then I may send one 470 in for step up and sell the other....or sell all of them and buy two 6970s... decisions...

Congrats on your cards...it's always fun to get a pair of high end cards on release day... 🙂

I have a splurge control problem. I Was waiting for the 580 but only if i could get the Asus cards as it's all i buy anymore. This afternoon no Asus 580's so no sale till just now when i saw they were in stock.

Rig is pretty basic. E5620 @ 4.2, Classified, Corsair AX1200

I hope your not CPU bottlenecked...

E5620 @ 4.2

4.2 with 4cores / 8 threads.... not bad, hopefully your not cpu bottlenecked with that Xeon.
400$ dollar CPU... nice.

1500$ for your cpu+gpu alone... too rich for me, I couldnt afford something like that.

Very nice OP! I havn't bought one yet, but im seriously considering it. Just not sure if im going to wait till a company like Alienware gets it for their systems or buy one and build myself. I wont SLI it though, as I am a little weary of SLI setups.

I'm curious, why wouldn't one wait till the high end ATI offers would be released. They should be out by the end of the month and it gives a buyer full knowledge of the field. The release might push prices down or bring new levels of performance or even price/performance.

Waiting seem to me such a better position to be buying from and making decisions. After all we aren't exactly talking about 50$ here where you can say oh screw it.

Nevertheless, I'm sure those monsters will eat frames for breakfast and ask for more!

I am waiting for the new cards to come out. So price comes down then i will buy a gtx card. Maybe a 560 or a 570 if nvidia drops the ball.

From the other thread you started:
"Seriously? 569.99 for a 580? WTF Newegg. Am i the only one who doesn't see the point in this card? IMO it's great and i'd seriously buy it if it was around 400 dollars but even at it's suggested 500 dollar retail whats the point?"

You certainly smashed your own argument with a sledge hammer! Can't give you too much hell though. Been there done that. Look at it this way, you're set for a while right?

The ultimate question, will it run Crysis 2.. 😛

@Hauk

😵 if it doesnt... /me sad panda.

I dont have a 400$ CPU or 1100$ grafic card.
Id like to be able to play Crysis 2 too.

In line for step-up (150th spot last time I checked). I'm actually sort of hoping that it takes a few weeks, and the 6970 gets released in the meantime.

I'll wait until ATI releases their 69xx series and see if the 6970 or the 580 is the better buy and go with that. Hopefully they drive each other's prices down like the 68xx series did with the 460 and 470.

The markup that Newegg is putting on these new cards is driving it slightly out of my pricerange.

Congrats to the op.

That said yes Newegg is a prick when it comes to price gouging. Since they clear a lot of volume they also tend to get more stock than other sites.

My problem with Tiger Direct is that there are local Tiger Direct/CompUSA outlets in my state so I get hit with a tax when ordering from them.

If done well, they'll mesh graphics, destructable environment, and urban combat together in such a way that the game's realism grabs you by the neck. They could go very dark with this one. I'm hoping they do.

I don't normally do this but "damn straight". I'm actually holding off on building my new gaming rig until Crysis 2 comes out. I had hoped Alan Wake would have the immersion I wanted but, alas...

Are there any triple 580 reviews out? Maybe the OP can pick up a third around Crysis 2 if need be...

I just ordered two Asus 580's from the Egg. Before anyone says it i know im a moron.
Look bro, why do you even think that you are a moron? You earn your money, and you spend it the way that pleases you.

Gratz on the cards, have fun.

Wow... have fun with it! You earn your money and you can spend it how ever you like - heck go Tripple SLI if you can!

I won't feel bad if you pwned me on FPS games with that set up...

I'm surprised Tweakboy hasn't bought one yet... I expected him to be the OP of a thread like this...😀
