Over the past year I have built a machine with a 800MHZ athlon slot A and a Abit ka7, and two machines with 900MHZ athlon slot A and Abit ka7-100 for some other people. My buddy built an 800MHZ Athlon slot A with KA7-100 and I have two macjines at my house wityh same mobo/chip combo. The first three machines above have all had problems to where I had to replace chip and mobo....Anyone else seen this phenomenon?

What kind of problems?

My wife has a 800MHz athlon oc'ed to 900. Been running fine for a year or so. On an Asus K7V though. Maybe time to switch mobo manufacturers. ;)

I will have to agree with DARRIN..
Abit is a good mobo manufacturer.. but if it were me and I had those problems I woudl switch.. might want to try MSI? they make rock solid Mobos! stable too. asus are nice too :D

I have also since then built about the same number of machines using the socket AMD processor and the KT7 and KT7 raid and had no problems (knock on wood)

The machine would simply not boot or do anything. I always first check power supply but that was never it. My personal machines have run non-stop painlessly since I bought 'em but the ones I bought for these otther people just plain died. Unfortunately I live in Florida which is the lightning capital of the universe and in every instance there was not a good durge protector so I am leaning toward this cause. My latest "victim" boots...posts..and then monitor goes black and no activity except fans. I replaced power supply and got the same deal...put differnt CPU in and same thing...
