Has anyone bought the MSI TV@nywhere card?

This cards seems to be so new that there arent any reviews on it ... I can't decide between the leadtek or this new MSI .... there isnt much in on the MSI .. does it work with D-Scaler? Any stability problems under XP? thx

Bump, because I'd like to hear some reviews/opinions too. I read that MSI and conexant were handing off some information to the DScaler team so it should be supported soon, if it hasn't already in the latest alpha.

there's a usb model?

i plan on buying it soon....will let you know when i do.

leadtek seems to have sound problems.

msi's card can record in mpeg4!

hi. i just bought mine yesterday from pcclub for 56 dollars. comes with remove and tv tuner. installed it without any problems. i have nto tried watching tv on it yet, nor have i tried dscaler. i dnot even know if dscaler will be better than the software it came with. will update.

well i have it now and its working great. remote was cool to use. when i installed xp's sp1, my remote stopped working. i wil try to reinstall drivers or something to see if it'll fix the problem.

gwlam12, I had heard of other people with problems with this card after installing either SP1 for XP or SP3 for 2K. Hopefully you can find a way around it. I don't really care about the remote for myself, I'll never use it. Just a few questions:

How is the picture quality? Good windowed and full-screen?
Could you confirm that this card plays back audio in stereo?
Are the drivers/applications solid so far? Any problems or anomalies you've noticed?

I don't know if you have any past experience with TV tuners, but I'm upgrading from a TV wonder, so I expect it'll be better in every way. Also, you didn't have any problems with PC Club did you? I'll either order from there TCWO or Newegg. Thanks and sorry for all the questions, there just isn't a whole lot of information out there on this card.

Hi. Yea, I just finished reading about this same problem (installing SP1 on XP and having problems) from the PCClub.com forums. There's the problem with the remote and also the fact that the numbers 000 blink in the left corner of the screen where the channel should be shown. Even when another window is covering it, you can still see the three numbers blink. It uses InterVideo WinDVR as software and I think it is similar to DScaler quality, which was better than the TV-Wonder. I once owned the TV-Wonder but got rid of it because it's software would freeze because of my chipset and also because it had problems in XP and could not really record for me.

Picture quality looks good both windows and full screen. I just took a snapshot of it in full screen and will be e-mailed to you shortly.

As for stereo, according to the program, the TV Broadcast is in stereo. Everything sounds good on my 4.1 setup with my TBSC sound card.

No problems noticed so far except for the problems mentioned above after installing SP1. I have no idea how well this program works with DScaler as I don't see any need for it. However, I do miss the ability to change the channel using the wheel on my mouse, but with the remote, there'll be no need for that.

Unfortunately, I have to uninstall my copy of XP as I did not archive my files before installing SP1. I'm hoping there'll be updated drivers for the tv tuner soon. The flashing 000 is annoying, but it's only annoying when you have a window covering your tv screen.

PC Club had it for $55.99. I believe newegg has a more expensive price. PC Club has a local store near me so I do not know how much shipping will cost from PC Club.

Oh yea, there's also a program that allows you to watch local stations from around the world. I haven't tried that yet, though. Gotta format first. IM me on AIM at gwlam12 or ICQ at 6626445 if you have any urgent questions and I will try to answer them.

Thanks for the screen grab Gary. It really looks good, seems like it may have some sort of adaptive filtering even without DScaler. I think I'll go for this as long as you think it's a solid step up from the TV Wonder. It's either this or the leadtek and it's still too early to tell who is going to keep their drivers updated. I sure hope I don't have to wait a full year for a driver update like with ATI. One more thing: you don't have a problem with WinDVR taking 30secs to a minute to start up do you? I've heard of that problem, but WinDVR has always worked well for me even with the ATI. Thanks again.

Actually, I do have that problem.
I am going to time it now. 28 seconds.

Oh yea. Running XP1600 @ XP2100 with 512MB Crucial PC2100 DDR Ram

I'm looking in to getting one of these cards too, so 1 quick question. With the 0000 problem, do the zeros always show, or do they just momentarily appear when you change channels?

they're always showing, even when a window is covering it. also, you can't channel surf with sp1 installed.

so if you don't download sp1, it's a great card. if you do download sp1, then all you have is a regular tv tuner.

Humm, I've already downloaded SP1, so I guess I'll have to wait for SP1 compatible drivers.🙁

There's some new drivers out for this card @MSI. I'd be curious to know if this cleared up some of the problems everyone was having with it.

I got the card. It works great and has good quality video and sound. The remote doesn't work under XP for me even with the new drivers. I will be trying it under 98 after work tonight hopefully. I need to try the streaming feature also so I can watch from work. 😛

Can anyone confirm the card does stereo sound?
Eventhough the stereo option can be chosen, but according to many users the sound still comes out to be mono.

Thinking about buying this.

Is the mpeg1 and 2 encoding done via hardware? Anyone know if this thing is in stereo or mono yet?

With the rig in my sig, would I have any problems recording shows in SVCD format in order to watch them in my DVD player?

Thanks

pulse8, hold onto your money right now.
I've been checking on the MSI forum and people are Fre@king pissed at @nywhere.
There are quite a lot of threads about the card not able to produce stereo sound.
mpeg4 still doesn't work.
I am current waiting for either a new driver set from them or the new ASUS tv tuner card which uses the same tv tuner.

Any word on when the new Asus one is coming out? I know they have WHQL drivers for that one, but no one is carrying it.

Asus TV tuner card using the same tuner? I'm interested, is it using the same chipset? Is there any further info available besides Asus very limited info on their site?
Can't seem to download the PDF manual from Asus' site.

As for DScaler, the current software doesn't work with the MSI's TV@anywhere chipset now, but it will in the future...

I have this card and I am not very impressed. The remote is very very touch, it usually takes me several times for the damm program to change channels cause it think I have "3" 5 times. The picture quality is average, not the best. I could post some screen shots of the quality. The newest drivers finnaly included mpeg-4 encoding. I would get the leadtek winfast tv 2000 xp. My friend has it and seems to be better quality.
