Has anyone bought a PC Power and Cooling silencer PS?

Does anyone have one of these? Are they really that quiet? I have an antec 300W ps in my SX1030 case and it's pretty loud.

Instead of getting a new PSU, if you want to quiet your PSU, you can replace the fan with a quiet one like a L1A.

I have one in my son's SX1000 case and I think it's pretty quiet, but am not sure. Next weekend I plan to put a baybus in to slow down the four Silencers, and then I will know better. When I did that with my SX600 (with an Enermax 365VE(FC)), it became clear that the PSU was a lot louder than I had thought. I was thinking about either swapping in my son's PSU or trying a Zalman.

Ganryu, I'm looking into the quietest PSU so I'd like a few opinions as well.

What's a "Zalman" hmsrolst? 😕

I agree with the fan idea. I have had three power supplies and replaced the fans in each with Panaflos and it works great. It is much better to just get whatever powersupply you want without paying a premium for silence and then modding them yourself for a much lower cost. I would suggest plugging the new fan you install into the actual power cables comign out of the PS rather than inside the PS itself.

hmsrolst, thank you for the link, looks like a very interesting alternative to other "quiet" power supplies out there.

That's a great idea hmsrolst, I'm sure plenty of us will appreciate the read.

<< Here's the Zalman >>

I would highly not recommend the Zalman...... Why?

It uses Sleeve bearings.... Every server I work on uses Ball-bearing motors because they just simply last longer. Also, unlike sleeve bearings, they will tend to make a lot of noise before failing.

Sleeve bearings tend to go, and go, then with little or no warning fail. This will toast your PSU and I've even seen some burn-up.

My $.02 of caution.

I got my Zalman and have installed it. It's much quieter than the Enermax 365VE(FC) Whisper, and my case is only a about 2 degrees C warmer (still only 31 degrees C). From what I've read, quality sleeve bearings are not necessarily inferior to ball bearings, although cheap sleeve bearings (which most are) are of lower quality. I'd be interested in what others know about this issue.

I've read the same thing lately... that sleeve bearing technology in fans is just about on par with ball-bearing fans. This didn't use to be the case a while back, but they're supposed to be reasonably reliable now. Still, the actual noise from the bearings is minimal.
