Has anyone ever added a intake fan in the bottom of there case to increase air flow in there setup?

I experience a ~7C difference when running with the side of the case off. Currently I have 1 120mm intake in the front, 1 120mm exhuast in the rear, and the PSU with a 80mm exhuast.
I have been thinking about adding a 120mm intake fan to the bottom of my P160. Just wondering if anyone has done this, and what were there results?

Just currious before I go ahead and cut holes in my case ;)

I'd be more interested in getting a fan at the top of the case, warm air goes up, and should really create some nice airflow in your case. Perhaps do both, and install a fan in the bottom as well ;)

Most cases sit near flush to the surface they sit on, which doesn't leave much room for air to get in. You can buy casters and/or big feet for your case to solve this, and then a bottom intake makes a lot of sense. Hot air rises, so the coldest air you could pull into your case is up through the bottom.

Bottom front intakes and top rear exhausts do a pretty good job of this already though.

yes, it may be a good idea if your case was at least 1inch off the ground to get some cool air in, but if u have a fan there, be prepared to suck in a lot of dust, esp if you're on carpet

As long as your case is up off the floor, that can help getting cool air in. If your case is right on the floor, the fan will have to work harder to draw air and you'll have to clean its filter a lot.

basically its a flush floor mounted radiator, that draws air from the bottom upwards.

It works really well having the intake at the bottom because physics states cold air is more dense and will drop while hot air rises.

So using that principle i mounted the largest cooling where it can suck the coolest air possible.

For a complete air system, i cant comment on how effective it would be. But on a watercooled system with the stacker, it does a great job at having the rad mounted at the bottom.

Thanks for the replies.

I added aluminum "feet" to my case, to make it easier to slide around. This also added a little bit of ground clearance, giving it just shy of an inch.
I think I am going to order up some 120mm fans with in the next week or two and do this mod.
Once I get it completed I'll post back with the results.

I know a guy that builds water-cooled "sound reinforcement" computers - for bands and so forth - and he swears this is the only way to fly! ;)
