Has a college team ever had a #1 football & basketball team?

Texas's football team won the Rose bowl this year. Their basketball team is very tought as well. Possible NCAA champions...

Is this something that has been done before?

Nope. In fact very few schools have won both national championships in their history let alone both at the same time. Basketball titles are dominated by traditional basketball powerhouses like Kentucky, UCLA, Duke and North Carolina, none of whom has EVER won in football. Football is dominated by Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Alabama and Ohio State, none of whom have EVER won in basketball. The only 2 schools that I can think of that have won both EVER are Syracuse and Michigan.

UConn won the men and womens basketball championship the same year a few years ago, does that count? i dont know if its happened with football and basketball before. usually, schools are only good in one of the two. i saw the texas basketball team play, they werent very good, imo, but, anything is possible.

until a univ comes up with enough money to support both programs fully and recruit the talent i highly doubt it will happen.
Texas is decent this year but beating the likes of teams like Duke and UConn in the tourny? doubtful...they'll make it far but not national champs...

That's a good trivia question. I suspect Mich St might have won both and there's probably some really obscure team, maybe ivy league or army or something... that won them in like 1918 and 1931.

Texas has a very good chance this year. They had a midseason slip and lost two in a row to Duke and Tennessee, but they have beaten two top ten teams in Memphis and Villanova, and a very good West Virginia team.

Illinois went to the final four in 1951 and won the football championship in 1951 as well.

Georgia Tech did something similar in the early 90's as well. 1990 Football championship (bowl game in 1991), Final Four in 1990.

So that's close.

Texas baseball FTW!!

Edit: I don't believe any school in history has won Basketball / Football in the same year. I somehow remember this being a "trivia" question in the rose bowl...
