Harvard announces free tuition to low income students

Yes, I was clearly making a sweeping generalization saying that all kids who go to poor public schools are idiots :roll: If Harvard had to choose between 2 kids of equal grades, comprable extracurriculars, and one went to an elite private school with difficult classes and the other went to some high school with 5 kids in Wyoming, most of the time, Harvard will choose the former.

As I said before, good parenting and good schooling will make a good student, but only innate ability will make a great student. I have no doubt about that.

do you think i care whether or not you have doubt about your own opinion? your lack of doubt doesn't mean what you're saying is any more likely to be correct. good, great, whatever... your initial post uses "good". i don't really care, i just mean good enough to get into harvard.

this is true... the admissions committee would have a better idea of difficulty of the elite private school. if they were satisfied that both schools were equal in rigor, they'd probably go with the latter.

exactly, but most schools in bad school districts usually aren't equal in rigor, hence my earlier statement

lol you found me out... i'm a moron. not only that, but i lie about where i'm going to school. i guess you must be right about hugs though, since you know them so well. i guess that's why they'd all agree with you as well, that the intelligence it takes to get into harvard is by and large innate. oh... hmm...

Apparently you've never been to Chicago, the school situation here is just sad, I really feel bad for the kids. Also the Baltimore school system is'nt a shining example of higher education either.

Nope. Good students can languish in mediocrity at poor schools. Yes, the talent is always there, but that doesn't mean that a talented kid will be prepared for an Ivy League college education.
