Hart's War, John Q or We Were Soldiers?

I must admit I never see John Q or We were soldiers, but I didn't much care for Hart's War. It wasn't a bad story or anything, it just didn't thrill me all that much. Though if I had to pick from the remaning two.. it's tough.. both have great leading men, but I'd probably go see We Were Soldiers only because I'm not a huge fan of the 'nice guy takes a group hostage to get his point across' theme. 🙂

I haven't seen any of them (I will when they come out on DVD). But, somebody I know and trust - and who served over there - says that We Were Soldiers is the most realistic movie about Vietnam that he has ever seen. And, he has seen them all.

dont recall what harts war is about, but john q looks rather pitiful to me...we were soldiers could be a good one though...

I just can't imagine Mel Gibson or Chris Klein in roles like that. I might consider We Were Soldiers or Hart's War.

I heard that John Q is one of Washington's worst movies yet. Also, Hart's War looks hokey.

I saw We Were Soldiers last night, and I can't quite find the words to describe a movie like that... go see it.

RossMAN,

Since my first experience with a Mel Gibson movie was Road Warrior, I can never imagine him in ANY role. But, I've rarely been disappointed in any of his work.

We Were Soldiers was *awful*. I haven't seen either of the other two but if you don't want to waste 2+hours of your life don't see We Were Soldiers.

Why? I'm curious as to why you didn't like it.

we were soldiers...watched it yesterday...was an excellent movie..not onesided like black hawk down..it has a true authentic feel of the battle in vietnam....saving private ryan was good but cheesy here and there...this movie has some cheesy moments, but it was just abt right....no stupid flag waving also...was very well done good acting and very authentic....no doubt the best movie on vietman. platoon was a good movie frm the sentimental standpoint otherwise it was a bunch of crapp filled with more of oliver stone's consipiracy theories.

It seemed like they didn't know what kind of movie they wanted to make. War movie? War docudrama? Drama? The battle scenes were halfway-decent (other than the obligatory main-character-never-getting-shot-even-though-he-is-standing-straight-up-while-everyone-else-is-diving-for-cover scenes) but the rest of the movie was just bad. First, it lacked any relevance to the plot of the movie ... and it was quite overplayed -- it seemed as if they wanted to make sure they could appeal to the females in the audience by having a lot of sentimental "off to war" scenes.

It was just ... blah.

hahaha...i agree very true and also the vietnam guys were killed like in hordes...and everytime( well not everytime but most of the times) an american was killed, the movie changes to slow motion and there is a dramatic background score....lets not be too critical though...over-all the movie was very good and satisfying....well done war movie...it aint no groundbreaker but was good...one part that was annoying was when the african-american woman is informed of her husbands death..she goes on to say "mmm...mmm.." again and again....the audience in the theatre didnt know whether to laugh or sympathize with her. that scene was badly done.

Haha so true ... I started laughing, I had no idea what was going on. That and the other scene when they're talking about their laundry? And the woman goes into the whole montage about how they don't allow colored clothes? That was incredibly bad...

I would have to agree.

I'm really getting sick of all these new war movies. They're trying to make them all dramatic and emotional. I guess it polically incorrect to just make a good war movie. The only good one I've seen in the past few years is Enemy at the Gates.

i just hate mel gibsons attempt at a southern accent in we were soldiers. course i aint seen it yet and am only going by the previews.

YES! John Q is a terrible movie. Very cheesy. I didnt expect much but it is so incredibly unrealistic...I think denzel had a good performance but the script and plot were just terrible.

Anybody who is a Denzel Washington fan should rent Glory. Fantastic movie, and the bonus is that it also has Morgan Freeman.

definitely agree....my first dvd purchase!

and go see we were soldiers rossman, incredibly good, even if a lil bit tear jerky at some parts, but i thought it ran a good line b/w the total war and showing the women....i liked that part, something often overlooked in a war movie. it was good to see it expressed what it was like to experience the leaving of home for war, something that i haven't really seen done in other war movies
