I saw the midnight showing last night. I thougt it was great. Best movie of the series so far. I haven't read any of the books, and I'm not going to now until the movies are all done with (as I'd rather be pleasantly surprised by a better book than let down by a summarizing movie). That said, the series is maintaining its humor while still getting into an overall darker format. Who cares if the special effects haven't improved?...they don't need to. The effects certainly accomplish what's needed without overdoing it. This isn't a "summer-blockbuster" that's all action, effects and T&A...there's actually a good storyline here.

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Well, I find it entertaining and that's what matters to me. Not how it might compare to other movies/stories. :cookie:

so you are saying you didn't like it?

If you in a good feeling stage while in that movie...you would enjoy it. If not, rather see something else and wait until your feeling changed.

I'm 41, have been in the military 18 years , I have read all the books, and saw the movie today. It gives me just another thing to talk to my daughter about. And even though it leaves out so many things from the book I liked Goblets of Fire the movie.

I thought it was a good movie, shame it wasn't longer so that more of the book could have been included. Easily the best Potter film so far and nice to see that it was suitably dark. Roll on number 5 and book 7 😀

My husband and I are a long way past 12, yet we have read and enjoyed all the books and have seen all the previous movies many times . We both really liked this movie and, as others have mentioned, lamented the fact that more of the book could not be included.

 exactly!

I am now re-reading book 5, even better than when I read it first with all the events of number 4 fresh in my mind

Harry Potter--it's not just for kids anymore.

Actually, it never was. What a great series. And I'm also way past 12. So are my kids.

Saw the movie and decided that it doesn't hold a candle to the book. The others were much closer, but they had to chop way too much from ther book text to make it fit into a movie slot.

Yes, they left in the action portions, but the meaning behind so much of it was lost.

3/5 in my book.

Somewhat a spoiler

No Quiditch in this movie!!! Only the opening sceen with the Quiditch word cup has any Quiditch involvement whatsoever, and another thing, there was almost no classes in the movie either. Cho was such a disapointment, she was suppose to be a hot Asian, not a chubby semi-decent Asian.

Good movie, Saw it at an Imax Friday night. Oh that was sweet.

After the movie was over I honestly felt cheated...it's a real clustered movie. What really had me angry though was all the screen time wasted with events that DID NOT happen in the books. It was a semi-valient effort, but I believe this is probably the turning point for the Potter movies. The rest of the books are way too large to be properly adapted to film. I find this dissapointing because this is the book that really got me interested in the series.

I was going to write a nice review detailing how much I disliked this movie, but I found another user reivew(on Yahoo! movies) that sums it up quite nicely.

NOTE: SPOILERS ahead in this link. He/she gives you the outline of the movie from beginning to end. Yahoo review

I actually finished the book while we were in the theather waiting for the movie to start (finished the book in about a week and half - read the last 100 pages on Friday...)

In hindsight, reading the book just before watching the movie was bad idea. Maybe it's just me, but I didn't like it as much as the other 3 movies, probably because the 'novelty' has worn off and also the actors/actresses just seem 'too' old for the characters now. I kept looking at my watch during the movie wondering how they were gonna fit the book into 2 and 1/2 hours...

3/5 as well...

Read all the books, but could never sit through a single movie, always fell asleep in the end, literally. The movies are just too boring and too watered down compared to a book.

This thread brings up a very good point. What does it take to have people sit and watch a movie and be entertained? We have Netflix, movie channels, and on-demand that allows us to watch things on our own time and and pause it to do other things.

Are we really getting used to having crap thrown at us in 30 minute intervals? And then, broken up with commercials.

Books have always been my greatest refuge. I enjoy taking out time to read. I consider myself as having patience as compared to others but I am older so I guess I am used to it.

But does Hollywood listen? Not really. They derive movies from games and comic books until they no longer break even. But until then, we will be forced to choose crap if we want to go out and watch a movie.

I am interested what you all will think of the Narnia movie (coming soon). I wonder if you all will like it or not, and if you haven't read the series, will it make you want to read the books?

I've read Narnia, but it was a very very long time ago, I was probably 12 at that time. I have all books on the shelf, but don't really have time to reread them. In any case I don't think the movie would live up to the book. I was actually surprised that I liked LotR, but it was probably because I didn't like the book...
