Mooney Wormtail Padfoot Prongs was Book 3 - I was mad that they cut some stuff out - if they put the whole book into the movie int he way they had done it, I would have loved it on a LotR type scale, but with so much cut out, it just left me a little mad. Now GoF will be a looooooooong ass movie unless they cut out something REALLLY important.

allright, as a huge fan of the books, overall it was a LOT BETTER than the first two movies. those two were good, but this one just had a better flow.

my main beefs comes from them NOT explaining who moony, prongs, padfoot and wormtail were! how can you not explain it?! they drew the damn map, at least lupin could have mentioned that!

also no explanation of the animagi... none at all..

i thought the time references were good though. and i really enjoy this dumbledore.

AND THEY DID NOT EXPLAIN THE IMPORTANCE OF HARRY'S PATRONUS.

otherwise from these plot holes which might come back to bite them in the ass in future movies, it was good. i was DELIGHTED that fred and george FINALLY got some screen time. unfortunately percy has none, which is going to be hell to portray in book 5. sigh.

I thought prongs, padfoot, etc were explained in the 4th or 5th book???

could have sworn it was lupin that told harry in the third. i don't have 1-4 with me right now, and i left book 5 at work. it's near the end, when he's giving the map back to him i think. and he explains why harry's patronus takes the shape of a stag.

i think quidditch has been cut for time purposes, but put in the most important match. that shot of diggory was way too short, considering what happens to him in book 4. as for cho, she really does nothing for the story in this book, but she has been cast for the 4th movie. same for oliver wood - he was hot - but they cut him because his crazy quidditch antics wasn't necessary to advance the plot line. (although a bird smacking into the whomping willow apparently was.)

i was fine with cutting crookshanks as the one who recognized sirius, but it was kinda weird the whomping willow was the one who threw them down the hole. i guess we'll never see in the movies that crookshanks is a kneazle and not a real cat.

the direction was great, i still think they need to get rid of steve kloves as the writer. his adaptation leaves the viewer wanting a tad more. even though JKR has to approve changes. sigh.

SPOILER ALERT!!

sorry, my bad... I thought harry knew about prongs etc when he argued with prof snape (in book5??)
about when his dad and sirius helped him.. then he said again he got in danger because of their pranks too..

I saw it on Friday night and enjoyed it on the basis of an entertaining movie alone. I haven't read any of the books so I can't make the criticial analyses that a lot of posters did. Given the scope of the books and that the filmmakers have only a limited amount of time to work in I am sure that it's a very difficult decision on what goes and what stays.

After reading this post it's made we want to pick up the first three books and see what I've been missing.

I've only read the first book, so I also can't really comment on what was left out and how it will affect the next movie. But this one was shorter than the last one so it seems like they should have made it a bit longer and added these things. They probably could have done a lot more explanation and character development with an extra 20 minutes. And it was good enough that I don't think anyone would have complained about it being too long.

Hey I just got back from seeing it. Pretty good, I agree with most everyone above that some important stuff was left out. I couldn't believe they didn't explain the mapmaker's relationships after hitting us over the head with the werewolf thing. Oh and the new Dumbledore has the most disgusting fingernails ever.

just saw the movie last night. i enjoyed it more than the first two.

the cinematography and attempts at broadening the Hogwart's campus was nice. as everyone mentioned above, many important aspects were left out...although that's usually the case with book to movie deals.
