Harmony remote

I'm overwhelmed with remotes on the coffee table, so I'm finally going to get a Harmony to replace all/most of them. I'm considering a refurb 670 or the Xbox 360 edition remote. I'm not sure which one to go with--the 670 is a little more but I don't know if it does anything to warrant the extra cost. I do use the Xbox 360 relatively frequently for Netflix streaming.

My setup is a TV, receiver, HDMI switcher, Xbox 360, HD-DVD player, DVR, and PS3. Until I got the adapter I'd have to wait on the PS3, but that'd be 6 remotes to get rid of. Recommendations?

Either one would work just fine for your setup. The only real difference between the two is the button placement. Capability wise they're pretty much the same although the 360 version doesn't have the activity buttons along the top it has them set on the LCD screen. Pretty much a personal preference thing.

I just set up my 670 today with similar hardware and like it so far.

One issue I have is that my TV will not only skip source inputs that are that not physically connected, but also ones that aren't currently active. So if I go from playing a game (with AV Receiver on,) to watching TV, it turns off the receiver, then cycles through the TV inputs 3 times, which is 1 too many since the AV connection is now gone.

Still looking for a way around this.

The 360 remote has the Activities button right at the top. It's one of the most prominent buttons on the remote.

Most TVs have IR codes that map to specific inputs like HDMI_2 or Component_1. When programming your 670 you may have to manually designate those inputs for each activity. I haven't done it in a while since my receiver handles the A/V switching now, but I had it set up that way at one time and remember having to do a bit of tweaking in the Logitech software.

I got the 670 from Amazon yesterday. Set it up, and apart from a few quirks that I'll get used to, I am very impressed and pleased with it. Like it's been said by so many before, you wonder why you didn't have one sooner. For $66 (refurbished) it can't be beat.

Just to be an $*#&, I got my 670 from Amazon (refurbished) last week for $35.

I used to have a 676. It work well for 3-or-so years. Certain crucial buttons eventually died though. It also got to a point where batteries, even the non-rechargables like Duracell Ultra, simply wouldn't last for longer than a week.

When I finally had to replace it, I stepped up to the 880. I love that it has its own charger and the backlight comes on with movement. We'll see how well it holds up over time.

It's definitely true that once you go with a harmony, you'll wonder how you ever managed before it.
