The DPR2005 is probably more of a Denon AVR-3805 competitor. I'd probably take the DPR2005.

IMHO, Logic 7 is awesome, especially if you watch TV. It does a great job processing 2 channel sound into 5.1 or 7.1, much better than Pro Logic II, Pro Logic IIx, DTS Neo:6, etc.

Sale is supposed to be thru 8/16 but most likely will be OOS before that. There was 3 when I was at the Sunnyvale Frys earlier today and I got 1 of them.

Nice find. I managed to grab a floor model when nearly every Fry's was out... had to settle with an AVR-435 remote, but still grabbed it (though tacked on a 3-year extended for $50). Great replacement for my Nak AV-10.

I picked up one at the Fishers, In. Fry's this morning. Salesman tried desperately to talk me out of it. I think it is about the best receiver after reading reviews for the $500 budget that I wanted to stick with. Then I got home and ordered 2 pairs of the Polk T90EB's from another Hot Deals post... Must turn off the computer, Ya'll are killing my savings =)

got 1 of the last 2. Salesman tried telling me that this reciever was more ditorted then the other HKs they had but the others were twice as much I guess thats why. But I bought it anyway I think its good enough for a mid range system.

Good deal, though the initial price of $1700 is a bit of a stretch since nobody sells it for that.

This model, the DPR-2005, is a digital receiver. It's THD (.15%) will be higher than an analog receiver. On the other hand, there should be no hiss coming out of the DPR-2005 which you would get from most analog receivers

Price is great and it seems to be cheaper by $300 than you can find in other places. 120watt on 8ohms is also awesome, because if you connect it to 4homs speaker you will get more power. One note only for people who want to pair it with hdtv system, Component Video Bandwidth 50 MHz can be insufficient.

Manual link

4ohm speakers can put a lot of stress on receivers not rated to run them. Is this rated for 4ohm loads?

All HK usually rated to 8Ohms, however work fine on 6 or 4. At least my receiver didn't blow for 8 years.

This is kind of a different animal since it's their digital line. I know a lot of things don't apply to the digital line as do for the analog units... don't know if underrated power ratings and ability to take lower impedence speakers applies.

Picked up a floor-model. I assumed, but haven't checked into it yet, that it would be fairly easy to get a remote from HK. Anyone have any input on this?

Maybe e-mail harmanaudio.com and see if they can hook you up with a deal on one.

Yeah I probably wouldn't try this on any new receiver these days. The only true safe way would be to bridge the speakers together to get the 8 ohm load; like you would in a car scenario. Wiring Option #2 on this page might work to set the speakers up properly if you wanted to use 4 ohm speakers onto an 8 ohm stereo load.

Only problem is you'd need twice as many speakers :p
