I went to the anaheim fry's today, they had the harman kardon avr520 for $399.99. A really good deal on a good receiver. Deal expires 1/14/02. Hope this is not a repost, i did do a search for "harman kardon" though.

hmm, that's a great price. i'm debating whether to get this, as i was originally going to wait for a deal on the avr 525.

i'm not sure of all the improvements, but the 525 has 7 powered channels, as opposed to the 520's 5 powered channels. this means that you need an external amp to run the additional 2 channels on the 520 if you want a 7.1 setup, not that i would need such a setup.

I bought the 520 at Fry's 6 months ago for $499, and it was a steal at that price! This amp is incredible, the sound is pure and warm. Don't even hesitate, it's an amazing piece of work. There really isn't a single thing about it that I don't like. Who the hell uses 7 channels anyways?

The 525 added some other features, for instance Dolby Digital EX decoding.

The only caveat I have on this receiver (and also the AVR-320) is that a large number of people on AVSForum have reported a problem with one of the channels in Logic 7 mode, and H/K has done little (if anything) to rectify this. They've essentially ignored their customers regarding a center-channel hum problem on the AVR-8000, as well. I find myself questioning H/K's build quality and apparent lack of customer service because of these two things.

Other than that, $399 is a steal on this receiver. It used to retail at double this price.

OMG. Do you know what the supposed problems are? I bought a 310 last year and one of the rear channels in the Logic 7 mode seems to come and go, or jump up/down in volume or in/out of phase (it's been a while since I've even bothered to use it, I forget the exact sound).

I'll have to go through AVS on the day off Monday, but if anyone knows off the top of their head, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

I'm enjoying mine with 5.1 right now :) Sweet, sweet sound! I'll be looking at adding two more speakers for 7.1, although very few movies use it nowadays, so I'm not in a hurry. I'm sure in a few years we'll need 10 or 12 speakers :)
