Computex today was good to us, as Hardwareluxx was able to have a look at the first "Fiji" graphics card from AMD. A partner of AMD allowed us to take a look at the graphics card, including the cooler, which we were able to take off. As if that wasn't enough, some technical specifications were leaked to use. AMD internally calls the card Fury X, yet it remains to be seen if it will hit the market under the name, too.
But let's start with the card itself. The water cooler is supplied by CoolIT. The PCB is indeed as short as first photos showed. AMD saves space by no longer placing the memory on the PCB itself, but instead on the interposer next to the GPU. Please see our in-depth article on HBM for further details. Accordingly, the current and voltage supply moved closer to the GPU and reduces the length of the card. Six power phases with two 8-pin connectors are installed on the card. Thus, the card can theoretically draw up to 375 watts. A PSU with 700 watts for the entire system is recommended in the data sheet.
The partner did hint at the performance. Apparently the Radeon Fury X ought to be slower than the GeForce GTX 980 Ti. Currently, AMD is still trying to optimize higher clock rates and is making adjustments to the driver's performance. Performance related to power consumption is therefore likely to be a critical issue for "Fiji".

Man this is dissapointing to hear. Poor AMD is facing a faster $649 GTX 980Ti.
It also sounds like the power consumption/TDP is quite high since its a "critical issue" for Fiji.

They know performance based on osmosis.....
Its a partner of AMD. They know everything there is to know about this card. BIOS is probably not on the card they have in the expo to avoid people from fiddling with it and exposing the card before official launch.

It's all speculation. This is another rumor based on an unnamed, but you know totally reliable source....

Also, the word "ought" is not an absolute. I can say, my car ought to be slower than that car, but it's not.

Everything about the Radeon Fury X continues to be based on hearsay. Especially any information relating to performance has to treated with caution. AMD certainly will still be able to improve numerous details. Neither BIOS or drivers are likely to have been finalised.

At least they covered themselves :p

Final performance will probably depend on the clockspeed and power consumption AMD decided on. Balancing performance and efficiency based on the 980Ti numbers. There are always advantages to being first to market and just after. :)

Doesn't make sense. They were shooting for Titan X performance, and surely they knew that NVIDIA would release a Ti card with the same performance as the TITAN for cheaper.

I think this means that Fury was ready to be released, until the GTX980ti was released.

Fury now needs higher clocks.

There is a switch on the ES Fiji Radeon, but it is not a BIOS switch. It just disable the Halt and Catch Fire instrucion.

No BIOS, can't turn on ---> Tries to tell us performance of chip.

What a joke.

I guess this is the reason why we havent seen AMD launching these cards yet...
They should have launched it before Nvidia laubched 980Ti. Atleast against the expensive Titan X it would sell.

Now its like the worst timing if its slower and facing a much cheaper GM200 GPU

At this point it could either go the way of the 4870 - great price/performance point with experimental new memory or it could to the way of the bulldozer so hot it needs a water cooler, but still too slow to be of any use.

AMD hasn't launched yet because they are sticking to their launch schedule.
