I'm a little new to the whole buying of used hardware and stuff like that, and I was wondering how much lower should the value of used hardware be as compared to new hardware?

after 6 monts of use, should value drop 10%? 15%?

how about after a year?

all comments welcome.

thanks

depends highly on the component

Video cards are probably the worst.... cpus too
Something like speakers/keyboard/mouse/monitor is going to last a lot longer without going down in value much.

It helps if you don't buy the bleeding edge of technology. For example, don't go out and buy a $600 videocard right now because there's probably going to be something comparable to it for half the cost a year from now.

If you get sort of middle of the road stuff
(3000+ A64 cpu, 6600gt vid card etc.) it will go down in price, but not nearly as much as something that just came out or is at the top of the performance group.

well i guess i'm having a hard time judging what a "fair" price would be and I dont want to come off as lowballing

here is the system i am looking at buying:
aiw 9800 pro (bba) - retail 200
amd 3200+ 512k l2 (754) - retail 170
asus k8n-e deluxe - retail 115
2x512 kingmax pc3200 ram - retail 120
zalman cpu cooler - retail 40 (?)
zalman vga silencer - retail 40 (?)

all the components are 6 months old, except the video card which is a "couple years" old

what's a reasonable price for this knowing how old the components are?

imho, i thought an offer of 550 would be reasonable

comments?
