AMD athlon700mhz
MSI k7t-pro MB w/award bios
1gig ram
ATI radeon 32m ddr video

Ok here is the problem. First of all this system is about two to three years old and have never had any major problems since install. Normally I leave the system on for a day or so before rebooting or cutting power. My system crashed to a black screen. No power to the monitor. I cut power to the system and checked my cables everything was in order. Tried to reboot and the CPU will not initialize. On the mother board there are four led indicators and they turn red to green after a sucessful initialization, they stay red. I have tried another CPU, bios battery, video card but to no avail.
Cpu still won't initialize. I am thinking maybe the clock crystall or BIOS prom. Have you any ideas or questions? Any comments appreciated.

thanks,

Ice

is that computer plugged into a surge protector? That sounds to me like a dead motherboard, possibly the result of a spike. You have eliminated all other hardware peices. Just one question though, does it POST?

POST = Power On Self Test. It's where the comp. goes through and checks the memory, video, etc. right after you turn it on before it boots. Does anything at all come up? The video card BIOS screen or the memory check? Sounds like you've narrowed it down to a memory or motherboard problem if you've replaced everything else.

Start with basic trouble shooting, CPU, RAM, and video card, clear BIOS; with power unplugged and battery pulled, set for 10-20 minutes. Boot up with bare min. as I said and see what happens, listen for beeps etc.

do a search on this forum regarding that MB ,,, mine went the same way although mine was only 11 months old and some have had them go after a few months ...

in my opinion the motherboard is dead all 4 led's are red? = dead....

get yourself another MB .... (IMO stay away from msi stuff) **** this is my opinion no flaming required ****
