I need to link my house with my garage, 300ft away. I might try to bury a cable to do this but right now am thinking about going wirreless.

Here is what I have to do.

Home PC
30 ft away window that overlooks Garage.
300ft to garage window.
60 ft to garage office PC.

So I am thininking about doing this;

LAN card into Home PC . 30 cable. Some kind of cable modem router (cable hookup here). 300 ft wareless distance. Some kind of router with antenna. 60 ft cable to garage PC.

This is for my farm that has a steel garage, so I don't think I have a chance of any antenna that I could put on my garage PC to receive a signal from the house.

Suggestions on how to connect these two would be helpful, Thanks.

Or is there is a wired way of doing this at 300 ft. From what I have been reading 300 ft is max distance for LAN cable. Also it rarely works at this distance. Is this true?

As my garage has sheet metal walls, I don't think a better antenna will work. I think I am going to be stuck burying a Cat5e cable between the two. Its the distance of 300ft that makes me nervous.

If the Antenna is outside (Windows or roof) the Metal walls would not block the signal.

You put an Access Point in client Mode with External Directional Antenna. The Antenna should be sticking out side If the Antenna is outside (Windows or roof) the Metal walls would not block the signal.

You put an n Access Point in client Mode with External Antenna Sticking out side, pointing toward the house a local Cable from the Access Point to the garage's computer will deliver the connection.

The cost of Antenna and Access point should be around $120.
