I just started as an admin at a medical mall. They have 4 bldgs, each with about 50 - 100 users, the admin bldg being the central point with our domain controllers, file servers, etc. They are using lots of old 10/100 switches, all on the 192.168.0.0/24 network and i want to upgrade the network. They're about to run out of IP addresses. What i envision is a layer 3 switch for each building, each bldg being on it's own VLAN, and a VLAN for the connections between the switches. It would look like a star network, with the admin bldg being containing the switch for it's vlan and the core switch to connect the bldgs together. Just looking around at what's available, i think i'd like to have the connections between the bldgs be 10Gbps links. Since they are using HP switches now, i think i'd like to stick with HP. Also, each bldg would have most likely 2 extra switches attached to it's layer 3 switch for extra ports. Would it be best to used stackable switches in this scenario? Any suggestions on what equipment to use for this network would greatly appreciated.
P.S. The buildings are roughly 100m apart in a sort of square shape.
