Hardware problem...

So I formatted last week, but I've been having major problems w/ freezing on unhibernate (the computer hibernates fine, but freezes when it comes back) -- I had no clue what it was, so I formatted again today with a minimal # of parts and added them back one by one. I found that it was my newest piece of hardware (2 wks old) -- a PCI geforce 4 mx 400 -- purchased to connect my second LCD via DVI.

I'm running the 71.89's and I have no clue what to do to avoid the problem (other than not hibernating, which is a crappy option, IMO).

does your computer have onboard video, and is it disabled?

oh, and hibernating it bad. i had a compaq and when it hibernated the monitor would break. we went through 3 monitors (all refunded by compaq, tho) and then they just told us to turn it off.

why do you need hibernation? i've disabled it on all of my machines.

check to make sure that both video cards support dual video card useage. also give system specs.

No onboard video. Although...I could set PCI as the primary card in the bios.

As for hibernate being bad...it sounds like they gave you a c0ck-n-bull story to cover for their sh!tty monitors. I have a viewsonic PF790 sitting on my desk and it was attached to a hibernating computer every night for three years, and all summer for the following two. It's still good as new.

Well, they both are nvidia chips of fairly recent vintage so they SHOULD....

System is B-52 in sig, with a 2005fpw as the primary monitor, a pf790 (analog) also attached to the VGA of the 6800GT and the hitachi mentioned attached to the DVI of the new mx400

I like the quick boot time and if you get it working reliably it's nice.

Plus it just bothers me that something is 'wrong'

Well the suggestions I have are to try some modified drivers based on the Detonators or try an older version of the Detonators. Frankly I just leave my PC on and have the monitors go into power save.

I do when I'm in the dorms, but here at home I feel kinda guilty doing that 24/7 w/ my parent's power. I guess I may end up going that route.

Does sleep work OK, that uses only a bit less power than hibernate. Hibernate is more for notebooks IMO.
