My friend has a Athlon 1700+ with 768MB RAM and a ATI video card. The motherboard is ASUS A7A266 and has a IBM Hdd. The problem is that he can't installl any OS on the drive. I used the drive and it works fine. But when we installed windows on it says entering setup and then there is a blank screen.

Tested the hardware everything works. I am not sure whether it is a compatibilty problem or what?

Another problem that I have with my computer is that I installed LINUX on my comp and then formatted the hard drive to install windows on it. Now I need a Boot disk in my drive to start my system because it doesn't read the boot record on the Hdd (thats my guess). Anybody knows how to fix the MBR (Master Boot Record). It was working fine until I formatted the Hdd.
 
Use fdisk on a boot disk, command is "fdisk /mbr". That's for your problem.

Try completely erasing your friend's hard drive using IBM/Hitachi's utilities: http://www.hgst.com/hdd/support/download.htm Assuming he doesn't have needed data on the drive of course. Use the tool to write all zeros to the drive. That might fix the issue, but might not.

Exactly at what point does it say entering setup and then blank? Is that during the first boot to CD? Or after you've run the CD setup and it reboots to start Windows? Or later?
